I am going for an interview next week for a hospital psych position (nights) and my son is applying for a psych tech. He is asking how much they make and I have no idea. Anyone?

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

Ours make around $12 an hour which is why I encourage all the good ones to go to nursing school. :)

In my state, particularly those who work for state facilities, the pay is equal to or comparable to that of LVNs.

Ours make about the same as CNAs -- a number of our techs leave because they find better-paying jobs almost anywhere else in our area.

Does that make any sense at all? You'd think people leaving and the cost of new hires all of the time would just make it worth it to pay a bit better...wow!

Specializes in Psych.

Where I work, in the SF Bay Area at a union hospital, RN's make around $50 and LPT's $30.

Specializes in psych, addictions, hospice, education.

Northern Indiana here: psych techs make about $9 an hour to start, where I've worked....

Specializes in Psych, med surg.

Iowa here - I think out techs start at about $16/hr - oddly, its the same rate the transporters make.

What do you mean by transporters?

How much then for the RN's?

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

I think our techs make around $10 or so per hour to start...a lot of them hold a second job somewhere else (or our facility is their second job).

Specializes in psych, addictions, hospice, education.

This was in 2007: northern Indiana: techs about 9, LPNs 15, RNs 20, per diems 25
