How much are you paying for nursing school (this semester)?
I just looked at my future dues for this coming Autumn Semester and have about 7000 dollars (not including books) to pay for. No scholarship money, and what it worse is that I am only taking thirteen credit hours.
I was wondering, how much are you going to have to pay for? How much do you average? And how many credit hours are you taking?
Per credit hour, I pay $550... So I usually end up spending around $7000-$9000 for tuition only a semester. I do go to an accredited, non-profit school, but it is private, hence the high costs. I have had to take out financial aid all 4 years (it's a 4-year BSN program, all pre- and co-requisities included, I came right out of high school). Even though I had financial aid, I still owed around $1000-$2000 extra per semester and that was covered by my private student loan. I expect to be $50,000-$60,000 in debt not including my interest on my private loan. I did not get any scholarships or grants because I am continually living with my parents, who claim me and make too much.
I have a bunch of problems with my whole financial aid office, but I won't vent those here. :)
Full time tuition for my BSN program is $15,925 for one semester. Of that total, I receive $8900 from a scholarship and grant, and the remaining balance is paid for by the hospital I work at. So, technically, I pay nothing out of pocket unless something happens with my tuition advancement (which happened last semester), then I allow my loans to disperse. Otherwise, I get the loan refund which goes into savings in case something crazy happens with my hospital benefit.
I currently am single, and my mom still claims me on her income tax. She was a teacher's assistant making about 12,000 dollars a year, so I definitely qualify for a pell grant which is 2,775. I do not have a job either. What state do you live in? I recently just received a 2K loan/scholarship through state aid. I live in MS. Basically, it's a program if I work in MS for a year, it will convert to a scholarship. I have lived in MS my whole life, so it works out pretty good. Does your state offer anything similar to this? Some of the secretaries that work at my nursing school send us emails about scholarship every now and then too. Cnoto34, I will post them here if they send me any before school starts.
I am in CA and I believe there are some like that but I have to make sure I qualify and if i will be able to move to an area that has a qualifying hospital. Ugh thanks for the info tho

I am sorry I could not be of more help!! Do not get discouraged! You will find some more money!! :) Good luck!
My school charges about 14500 per semester for 12-18 credit hours. However, I'm taking 12.5 which is 2.5 credits short of what I need for a map grant meaning I will owe the school money for those credit hours that I am short...probably around $500. I decided to commute this semester which means I have to buy a car! AND I don't have money for that, so probably gonna need a loan for that. Aside from that, I will only have a govt loan of about 3500 compared to the previous 10,000 loans I took out freshman and sophomore year.
Also, books are going to be around 500 bucks! ughh
We're all in the same boat! It will pay off though!

My BSN program cost me about 3k per semester with tuition and fees, and another 300 or so for books. It would have been another 1k for books if I had bought them at the bookstore, but I could usually find them at Amazon for half of the bookstore price or less. Don't ever buy books at the bookstore if you are trying to save money. It's just not a good idea. I usually averaged about 18 credit hours per semester.
