Hello,
I have two job offers which I need help in deciding which to take. I'd love to know your opinions. By the way, I just graduated, so this will be my first nursing job.
(Private) Hospital 1: Pay is $24.28/hour - includes 1 year residency position (non-accredited), 2-year contract, about 12 miles away from my home, will be on med-surg, urology/bariatrics, respiratory, or oncology. Probably will be working nights Relocation agreement is $5,000!
(Public and Magnet!) Hospital 2: Pay is $23.07/hour - includes 1 year residency position (nationally accredited!), 1-year contract, about 4 miles away from my home, will be complex-medicine, days, working both sat. and sun. every other weekend. Relocation is only $2,000.
I am drawn towards Hospital 2 for the nationally-accredited residency program and the magnet status, plus it is close to my home, and I've already met the nurse manager and the other nurses and I love the floor and their attitudes!! I am just upset about the decrease in pay. But do you think it is worth it? I am leaning towards yes, it is, but I want to know what you think with your experience.

The difference in pay is negligible. Not worth the scrutiny. Go where the gut is.

That base pay difference is nothing... Although you'd be making more in shift diffs working nights. Still, a shorter contract + it feels right + accreditation? That sounds like a winner to me! Have you factored in the benefits packages? I took a lower base pay job, but the benefits are INCREDIBLE and the hospital is highly respected worldwide.

You will also make more on weekends. The difference in pay is not worth the debate. Go where you put all the exclamation points ! :) Magnet hospitals are the bomb!

How exactly are you taking a 'pay cut' when you don't have a job? I find your terminology strange. And you get a relocation package when you live so close? Are you certain?

I live 35 miles from work and get 0 compensation for driving that far. I am extremely skeptical about those relocation figures.
Also, no one cares about magnet.
I'm taking a pay cut because I have a better pay with Hospital 1 than hospital 2.
I have moved from the north to the south and so they are offering me relocation supplementation.
Benefits are basically comparable, though maybe a little bit better with hospital 2.
Yes, I think I will take the magnet hospital's job offer! Thank you to all those who made helpful inputs!

Again, no 'cut' as you do not have one job and are going to another. You are choosing between two potential jobs, one pays slightly more than the other.

You will save the tiny amount of difference in pay in time/fuel..go with your gut...which seems to be hospital 2..many people on here will tell you chasing the money only will not sustain you over the long haul.
Why are you focusing on my wording, meanmaryjean? Whats your goal in these comments you write?
Thanks Marshall1, I agree with you.
