Let's compare hourly pay. Please state you city:
St. Louis, MO: $12.75 (plus differential for weekend/might)
Jacksonville, FL varies due to many hospitals but my mom is a PCT/Unit Secretary and I been told pay for new PCT is about $12-13 per hour with the common $1-2 differential pay. A nursing student (which I'll be here in 2016) can work as a PCT/PRN after their first year of nursing fundamentals and usually start at $11-12 and usually gets half the differential, or sometimes the same differential. I'd say highest range would be $15-17 and you get maxed out after about 20yrs of working as a PCT, then you get anywhere from 400-800 annual bonus depending on the hospital and your work ethic. Some hospitals may not give a bonus even if you are maxed out. Some don't even give 1% raise for maxed out employees to keep in balance of the cost of living.
PCT is a great job though for nursing students who are trying to get a foot in the door. Down here it's all work ethic and who you know that determines your job and pay.

That may be the case!
TX - $10.92 base/$1 evenings/$weekends
This is my last semester of nursing school so I am not complaining. All my co-workers and education department keeps mentioning to me to go for extern once the winter months roll around which would bump it up to $15/hr
Let's hope that happens!
