I was offered a job today as a IV therapy Nurse at a clinic. I have a AAS degree in Nursing and have my RN license. I was told that the experienced nurse I will be working under is getting about $20/hr. I was offered $10 and 3months probation to ask for an increase. I told them I wanted $12/hr but should I be asking for more? I only have 2 months experience administering Flu Vaccines. I have been looking for a job for 6+months. I don't want to settle for this little. While working as a Flu Nurse I got $35/hr. This is a big decrease but it is a full time job. What should I do?
I would tell them, I've done a lot of research and most nurses in this area make $X.xx (but add a few bucks/hr to that) what you offered me what quite a bit lower, and I won't even be able to pay my bills unless I take $X.xx (about what you want to make)... it worked for me when I was offered a crazy low wage
I was told this was for deficiency in any vitamins they'd be lacking based on blood work. .
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that just about everyone they test will be "deficient" and require very expensive and unnecessary infusion "treatments. LOL Trust me it is a racket .
Truthfully, it would be more of a blemish on your resume vs gaining wothwhile experience.
$10/HOUR?!?! for RN position? i had to read that like 3 times to make sure i read that correctly.
here is how i see it i made about $8/hour when i worked in a movie theater when i was in highschool SIX YEARS AGO!
Maybe cost of living is way down where you are from. but i can tell you this, cost of living ain't jacked up here. i live in small rinky dink town of 1,000 some people. I graduated with 30 people in my high school class. Given i commute to "the big city" of 40,000 people (no joke!). I still started at 25/hour. some RNs are making close to 40/hour.
You need experience, and they are sensing that. But it is not worth it. Seriously. That is just wrong on so many levels. i would be offended if someone offered me $10/hour. Especially in NYC. where im guessing the cost of living is much higher than my "big city" of 40,000 people.
A vitamin deficiency?
Yeah...right.
Is a licensed PHYSICIAN working at this clinic? Or is it a scam place who will infuse some concoction of hi dose Vit C for chelation in the hopes of curing someones autisic child, or fatigue, etc.??
This is a VERY high risk to your license, IMO. I do not even believe they will be licensed
as a real medical clinic. I'm gonna guess they are an alternative medicine clinic (and not a real Alternative Medicine Clinic).
Run....
IMO, $10/hr for an RN is pathetic. Don't sell yourself short. I find it insulting to be offered that low! If I were you, I'd look for another job. Good luck!
It is pathetic, regardless of the cost of living. I have a friend who works in a convenience store as a clerk making 13 an hour. The clerk in the liquor store makes around 15 an hour. It will be a cold day in h*** before I would ever accept an RN job for 10 an hour. You're worth much more.

I'm going to agree with nearly all the other posters and offer my 2 cents- DON'T do it! $10/hr? For an RN? I would ask them if they are serious! Good luck- I think there are bigger things out there for you. As a new grad myself, I can relate to the struggle of finding a job. I've been a licensed RN since April and I FINALLY got into a hospital- a small rural hospital but I couldn't be more thrilled- I start in 11 days!!
