How much do you get paid for being on call?

On my unit, we are required to be on call two 12-hr shifts per month. The pay is about $2 per hour for us to be available for 12 hours.

Tonight, we can get 6 patients before I would be called in, and that many admissions rarely happens on nights in my ICU. But why not put me on call since its only costing the hospital about $24?

I feel like my time is not valued at $2 per hour. Also, if on-call pay was increased to, for example, $5 per hour, then perhaps mngmt would not be so quick to put 5 people on call every night!

What is it like for everyone else?

It was $2.00 . . . . . then up to $10 . . . .now it is $6.

our on call rate is 75% of our hourly rate, and if called in, we're guaranteed a minimum of 4 hours at 150% hourly rate. at my hourly rate, that would be about $37 and $75 dollars per hour respectively.

of course, this is in unionized new york; home of the "tax and spend" liberals where they still have some respect for the working man and woman.

$2/hr for being on call and then time and a half for coming in. However, if you left early for whatever reason during the week, you don't get time and a half for getting called in; rather it goes to your accrual of 40 hours/week. Kinda crappy.

We get paid...absolutely NOTHING for being on call! It is horrible, it is the worst, we all hate it with a passion I can't even describe. It's not fair, it's not right, we lose whole days being on call without getting ANY compensation whatsoever, not even a pittance, not even a flat ten bucks or fifty cents per hour.

We are required to be on call every couple weeks. Depending on the day, you're either on call for 12 or 16 hrs each time.

They like to fill scheduling gaps that have been there for weeks with the on-call person. They also like to cancel the PRN nurse that was scheduled than call in the on-call person (I guess because the PRN makes more money per hour? Or is it just to torture the person on call and rub in that "they" can do exactly whatever-the-hell they want to the peons?).

Of course there have been complains, the answer is if you don't like it, don't let the door hit ya on the way out, we have stacks and stacks of apps from people for whom it would be an honor and privlidge to serve us for free...

i was going to add that usually the on-call time depends on what department you report to and how big a city you live in.

here locally icu and er nurses get about what you mentioned.

I used 2 get NADA/nil 4 being on call.

I work in home health. I'm on call for a week at a time, 5pm-8am Mon-Thu, and 5pm Friday to 8am Monday. I'm paid a flat $100, plus $35 for a visit and $75 for an admission.

I get a straight up $25 for a call shift, so about $2/hr. Then if called in, its time and a half.
