How much did your education cost?

Published

Everyone is talking about money and pay so tell me how much did your education cost.

I figure I will have around 40-45K in my education. So tell me when you compare this to other jobs what do you think.

Example my brother works at a box plant where he has been there for about 5 years. He makes around 38K if he works no overtime. As a nurse I will make around 45K. Ok that is 7k more a year but I have 4.5 years of school involved and his job requires O. (he just got a degree and is looking for a new job)

I will have more security then him I know but, which is more important; a box or your health. Which would you pay more for?

Also, please do not misunderstand, I am glad he makes a far pay for our area. However it just bothers me when you think about the box/health question.

I hope I'm headed in the right direction here. I did my LPN in 1990 and paid $2,000 for school and books, I did the ADN in 1994 and paid $11,000 to complete it (private school). I'm doing an ADN to BSN now and by the time I graduate in May 2005, I will have $30,000 invested in it. Yes...for me its worth it. I made $58,000 this year as an RN with 9 1/2 years experience.

mrdoc, I understand what you mean about your wages compared to your brother's. My husband is a Correctional Officer at the prison here in town. It requires only a high school diploma and after almost 3 years there, he makes $45k a year. When I graduate from my ADN program, I will make approximately the same, but have 3 years of education.

i am in canada and in the RPN program, i paid $2500 for the program and $1000 in books first year. Second year $2700 and the books so far$200. The BSCN program is outragous, $4600 a year for four years without books.

This is my first post, but I just couldn't resist! I graduated from a Diploma school in 1965. My total cost for 3 years was $350!!!!! That was room, board, books, uniform, including laundry, meals, the whole ball of wax. At the time it was the only way I could go to school, as my Dad didn't believe an education and would not allow me to go to college. Nursing has been good to me over the years. I am am DON for a very large multispeciality group of MD's and have about 200 nurses, plus PA's, NP's, Lab, and MD's.

I paid $1300 for my semester in ADN school (including books). After that, I was on scholarships. When getting BSN my employer paid almost all of it. Same now in grad school-employer is paying for most of it. I know I am lucky. This benefit is offered to all employees, regardless of dept. or previous education.

BTW: welcome to this board!!

Approximately 20,000 for a BSN, not including books, lab fees etc...I don't even want to think about how much I spent on books!

Four years of Service in the United States Marine Corps, with a side trip to Desert Storm! Uncle Sam was then gracious enough to pick up the tab for me.:)

Sorry for this post

but in the UK they paid me

Only around 6K a year, but I guess the wages post reg make up for it

California is an awesome state to go to school- I only paid about $2500 for my ADN at a community college (not including books), for my RN to BSN I paid about $5,000 ( not including books) and I just entered a MSN/PNP program that takes two years and my tuition is $1500 a semester. Last year I made $63K working per diem. I really can't complain!
