How many tries did it take you to get your nusing lisence?

Do u think academic grades or clinical grades have any reflections on how people do on board exams?

Thank you in advance.

Passed the boards with 75 questions..can't remember how long it took me, maybe an hour? I didn't think that I failed but I do remember worrying the whole 5 days I had to wait to find out!! :)

LPN ..1979- I took it once also paper and pencil days....worked several years then had my children 15 and 12 years ago. I stopped working and kept up with the continuing medical education courses. Decided in 1999 that I probably would not go back to work and put my license as inactive...well..summer 2002..decided, wow, I really do want to start working again since my family is growing up....I re-applied to the Board of Nursing and had to re-take the nclexpn... I spent the 3 months of summer studying and retook the boards thinking no friggen way will I pass after so many years of not working..I was so proud of myself when I received the pass letter.

I would not consider going right back to hospital work without a re-fresher course... so I took a different direction and now I work in an office and do clinical research studies...quite exciting!

Took the test, it shut off at the minimum number of questions, and passed.

I think a lot of it was preparing for the *types* of questions they ask, and preparing to take that sort of test. I'd always been one to go through a test quickly answering all the questions I knew, then go back and answer ones I wasn't sure about, etc. The computer format changed that. My school had us practice similar computerized exams our senior year. Also, all our nursing exams were similar to the boards in that there would often be 2 answers that could be "right", but one was the better of the 2. Throughout school, that frustrated me to no end, but when all was said and done, I was glad, because that was how I found the boards to be. plus, it tunes up your critical thinking skills.

What's also kind of neat about the newer computer testing is that you can sign up for any of several time slots throughout the day, 6 (or is it 5?) days a week. Sure beats the couple times a year thing that some of you have described!

well i guess i am not in the 'normal' category....i took boards back in feb. of 87, when you had two days of intense tests, 250 or so questions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon on both days...i failed....so i had to wait until june of 87 and took them again, the same way, and unfortunately the same result, i failed again...took them again in feb88, and finally passed, back then you didnt find out forever, and got my licence on april first, of course i thought it was just a joke, but now am so happy that i passed, of course on some days i think god was trying to send me a message to get out, lol:o

Once, than you Jesus...But, I went to a hospital school and we were told that if we didn't know our stuff by then, we wouldn't know it at all....They told us not to worry about studying med surg, as we had clinical in that area for 3 years...I studied pediatrics and ob the most, which is ironic, as I hated it and that is where I find myself..

They told us to have a good breakfast and relax..What I recall is that it was horrifically hot and the place we were was non air conditioned. I got my period, and the person next to me went into labor...I also vividly recall, since my school specialized in diabetes, thinking Oh, thank God, when I saw those questions , while the person next to me, from a different school, was in tears for the same reason....They didn't specialize in diabetes...

We were asked to stick around and do the experimental test, but too many people were fainting from the heat...That was 1981....

Oh, I should mention that of the several people I have known who for some reason did not pass their boards the first time, they are among some of the finest nurses I have ever had the pleasure of working with.....

Man, back in the day we had two full days of testing...Well, I may have passed the test the first time, but I have flunked in posting....

I also went to a diploma school with a 100 percent pass rate. BUT, even though the actual testing and wait was horrible, we all went out the night before our results were due to come in and I felt ok because I had dreamed that I passed and something about the number 15...No one, including me , could understand why I was so calm....But, the results came in the next day and part of my license number has, you guessed it, the number 15....

I passed after my first attempt. . . over 10 years ago. . .

There was a 98% passage rate from A.S program!
