How many programs/schools are you applying to?

Published

I was just wondering how many programs/schools you guys were planning on applying to once you are (almost)done with all your prerequisites?

I thought it was normal to apply to just a few (2-3), but after realizing how COMPETITIVE ABSN/MSN programs are...I'm panicking!!! Do i have to apply to 30 to have a chance at being accepted???

But it's kind of a dilemma, because if i COULD i'd apply to a lot but applications fees are expensive....

How many are you applying to??

I applied to 1 school, but two different nursing programs (day and evening/ weekend). I was accepted into the evening/ weekend nursing program.

I didn't even know you should apply to more than 1....

I am really clueless.

Should I seriously expect not to get in. I'm taking my pre reqs for the accelerated 2nd degree program at the University of kentucky where I got my psych degree.... they just doubled admission rate from 40 to 80 a year...

Now I'm really scared.

I'm gonna apply to three BSN (I have all of my GE and other degree requirements done so this would be my first choice) and three ADN.

I planned on applying to 3 schools for accelerated programs (one ADN, two BSN). I applied to the first shortly after their 'early admissions' deadline. I was gathering the additional requirements for the other applications (reference letters, etc), and received the acceptance to the first. It was my 2nd choice overall, but I think I'm happier not going through the other applications.

I'm applying to the 4 non-waitlist programs within reasonable commuting distance for Spring (it wouldn't make sense to apply for more if I wouldn't be able to attend, anyways), plus possibly getting on waitlists for a few others. For fall I'll apply in a more widespread manner.

There's no one right answer. If, for example, you know what the cutoff score is for the school you're applying for, and your score is well above that, you can probably safely apply to just that one school. If you have great grades and live in a less competitive area, you may be able to get away with applying to one or two choice schools, especially if taking an extra semester to get in won't hurt you much. If you have less than wonderful grades and/or live in a very competitive area, you'll want to maximize your chances.

There are three schools in my area and I plan on applying to all three.
