How many of you have multiple jobs besides being an LVN?

More than half the dr and nurses smoke!! Wow, I have never came across that many. I have seen a hand full here and there. MAny may have become addicted to cigarettes before joining the medical profession. With that said, any person in the medical field that decides to start smoking now, in this day and age with all we know about the harmful side effects, is an absolute moron.

I'm sure its stress-related. Has anyone noticed that RNs (can't say anything about LVNs as I'm not one yet) drink a lot, too. I have a relative that is an RN and she and her nurse buddies seem to drink A LOT. Everyone time I talk to her I hear "I drank too much last night".

Yes, I have notices this trend with drinking too. I think it is related to the stress of nursing. In contrast to smoking, alcohol is a lot harder to get addicted to. Lot of LVN's I know drink a lot too so its a RN and LVN thing where I work.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean that for the RN's and Dr.'s. I meant MA's and LPN's but I was also commenting on the fact that I have seen and few RN's and Docs smoking as well(fewer Dr.'s though). But even so, I find that more appalling than a nurse who may moonlight as a stripper. I think it's alot worse to be working in the healthcare field and not taking care of your body than working in the same field and NOT having so called "morals". How is that any different than being a nurse and cheating on your spouse...you see and hear that alot too. Probably more of that going on than being a pole dancer 2-3 nights a week......

I wonder if the stripping nurse would be embarassed if any of her male nurse colleagues saw her show. I know, I know, strange thought.

Talk about getting priorities straight??? How come every job I have had (3) in the medical field more than half of the nurses and medical personell SMOKE???? This includes RN's and Doctors. Did they totally waste their time going to school for their degrees and licenses?

I really don't believe stripping is a "reputable profession" but I also don't think you can lump it together with selling drugs and prostitution!!! I say to each his own. Maybe I wouldn't participate in the same activity but I'm sure as heck, not going to judge anyone. Isn't that what nurses are supposed to do? Not judge but help, care and show compassion??

:monkeydance: All people judge(pre-judge, make "comments" and unsolicited remarks towards others all the time!!!) It doesnt matter what profession we happen to be.Nurses are supposed to be kind, compassionate, and caring. It would be unprofessional for any healthcare worker to openly criticize/judge a patient while providing care.:nono: What other employees do off the job IS their business, but if they dont want their business spread around then they shouldn't talk about their personal business on the job.

As far as smokers on the job... I dont care as long as they're not smoking in my face:angryfire . IMO smoking is a deadly, nasty habit and they need to try and quit ASAP to improve their health.

She didn't seem emborificessed with me their, and I wasn't emborificessed about seeing it...then again I was getting free lap dances, so that changes everything!

j/k!

YOU'RE FUNNY BigB!!! I was thinking someone would say something smart like that.....LOL

Personally, I think that we should consider someone morals in the workplace as it pertains to the way they are doing the job they were hired to do, at that location. Unless she was selling patients lap dances, she is ok w/ me. If this young lady can do the job that she spent her time and money to do, during the hours she is scheduled to do it, I don't think it matters what she does.

Shiftlvn07, it does kinda seem like you have some personal problems, and maybe even a little resentment because of your financial problems. I respect your views, no matter how old fashion, but I would hope you are not as rigid when comes to treating patients w/ various lifestyles you might not approve of. I know they touch on that in nursing school.

:monkeydance: WOW you're quick to assume things regarding my personal/financial situation. But you know what they say about people who assume... they make ***** out of themselves!! Secondly I was raised in the church and there's nothing wrong with having your own opinions/morals.I'm proud that I live in a country where anyone can express/defend there opinions.(just as many of you on this message board have!!!) I Don't JUDGE/belittle/degrade my patients while providing care( I've read threads from other people saying how they openly bad mouth their pt's:nono: ) That's not why I wanted to become A nurse. The original post was about multiple jobs not "I don't like people who judge others/patients and various other personal attacks on someone we dont know":angryfire I DONT KNOW THE STRIPPER/LVN. I MAY NOT LIKE HER SECOND JOB BUT I DONT BELIEVE SHE'LL BURN IN HELL JUST BECAUSE SHE STRIPS. I pray that she may one day climb off the pole forever!!! Adults have the right to do/say whatever.Right/wrong, harmful/harmless- we have to face ourselves in the the mirror everyday! And guess what- I like what I see!!!
