How many job interviews before you get your first nursing job?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

For all nurses who have already gotten their first position after passing NCLEX. How many interviews did you get before landing the job?

Did you send out more than 50 resumes before getting an interview?

Any real life stories would help.

I graduated in March. Took NCLEX in May. Really didn't start applying until after NCLEX (except for one new grad program). Applied to 35-40 hospital jobs. Two face to face interviews (and several HR phone screening interviews too). Landed a Medical/Telemetry job at the 2nd interview (I had done Med-Surg II clinicals there and still knew some of the nurses). Also, my clinical instructor there put in a good word for me.

Bottom line: Clinicals and references matter. Even if you don't care much for your clinical instructors, your future may depend upon their help. Also, when you are doing clinicals, pitch in and help where and when you can. Be safely assertive. Good luck.

I filled out and sent out 100s of applications and resumes to every state. When I finally got a call for an interview I was accepted for the first one. I have since had another one without starting the 1st one yet. I haven't heard back from the second interview yet, but its only been 3 days.

5 applications, 4 interviews, 4 offers.
