How many hours did you work during prerequisites?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I have been living abroad but am returning to the US, to start my prerequisites, I already signed up for a CNA class for as soon as I get back. I would just like a rough idea of how many hours people have worked/ been able to handle from personal experience. I know I need to find my own suitable amount, however, it's nice to hear others experiences.

Thank you!

I'm starting my pre-reqs now and I'm taking 3 classes: (Stats online, Pysch online, and speech in class W nights) about 10 semester units this spring. I'm working 40 hours per week and a part time second job. When I start the science classes, I might only take 1 science per semester in fall but it requires lab and it's in class so I might have to cut back. It's doable and if you can find the classes online. Not sure if your college allows online science courses though.

I've been working full-time (36 hours) while taking about 8-9 credits..but I'm also still in the process of finishing up my A+P. It takes me forever to absorb some of the material so for me taking classes that are easier (like writing, philosophy, etc.) with that is a pretty nice plate. I know some people who were full-time students taking anatomy, micro and like college Algebra but I think they were only working part-time while doing so, so they still managed to get all A's. I can't really work part-time right now so that isn't an option for me but if you can find a hospital gig that has 12's (I just started working at the hospital and working 3 days a week is vry chillllllll!!) then I would suggest that. Next term I plan on going back to full-time :) Also, taking online classes has been a huge time saver for me and has allowed me to work the hours I want plus still have a good amount of study time/money in my pocket.

40 hours and OT when they provided it.

I am a full time student and work from 4-9:40ish pm every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I work from 11 am-9:40 pm on Mondays. It's hard but you have to learn how to manage your time and PRIORITIZE.

I quit my full-time job and started doing GrubHub, Lyft, Uber, etc. whenever I had some free time. Best decision I ever made - about to finish A&P with an A and my friends in the same class who are working their butts off are not doing nearly as well.

I was working 40+ hours a week at an auto collision shop for 3 years. I also had to get my high school diploma for the first 6 months though. It's all about time management to be honest. It's tough, but doable.

How many credits did you take whilst working 40+ hours per week? Thank you. Did it take you 3 years in total to complete HS and prerequisistes?

Yes it was three years in total. It took 6 months to receive my diploma and a little over 2 years to complete prerequisites. I was taking an average of 10-12 credits a quarter, depending on the classes I was taking. I also still had to set time aside for my family and help my kids with their homework and things like that. For those 3 years, I had no life. It was work, school, and study. However, it was totally worth it, I'm now applying to nursing schools in my area and I feel ready for the second part of my journey because of the last 3 years.

Great. Thank you for sharing your experience. I've also pretty much accepted the next 4-5 years I will have no life lol. True that it is worth it in the end. Did you take any summer credits/ and did you score As in the sciences? Hard work!

Yes, I would usually take one 5 credit course in the summer. No, I didn't get all A's unfortunately. I averaged a 3.5 gpa in the sciences, but I'm not to worried.

That is still impressive, especially considering the amount of hours you were working. Have you applied for Fall 2017 and waiting to hear back?

32 hours variable shifts. Class next fall looking to be Tuesday and Thursday day class. Wednesday 2 hour class. 1 online class.
