How many hours a week do you spend on average for one class

Published

I was wondering how many hours a week do you spend on average for papers, discussion boards, and other assignments for one nursing class.

Thank you.

A general rule of thumb is 3 hours x # of credit hours. So if you are taking a 3 credit class, then plan on 9 hours per week of study. Some need more, some need less.

mp86,

Did you start at Ohio University? I am starting this fall. I cannot decided if I want to take 3 nursing courses or I want to take additional courses along with them. I do not want to overwhelm myself because I will be working full time as well.

If you started, what is your advice?

I am starting the fall too. I am taking one nursing course at a time and an extra class.

Send a request to join the face book page " Ohio University RN to BSN online-academic outreach initiative" . You will find a ton of current info there about the program and all the classes.

Honestly? I average maybe 3-5 hrs/wk. Most of that is finding the resources I need for the discussion posts/papers, the rest is writing.

Hi are there any group projects for the nursing courses?

No group projects that I am aware of. Discussion board posts and one written assignment per week is typical for most classes.

I would start with one nursing course. They are all structured the same way- so after you get that first one down you can decide if you want to do more than that. I usually take one every 5 weeks along with a pre req that lasts the whole semester. I average about 3-5 hours per week also. Usually at least 3 hours in one sitting to write a paper that is due. Don't worry, it goes fast. Hope this helps.

Realistically, it took me about 30 minutes to 1 hour for the initial discussion board post and then 2-5 hours completing the assignments on Sunday. I did do 2 classes on average so I think the max amount of time was 7 hours.

I am almost done with my RN to BSN degree through OU. I have not had a single group project. If I'm lucky, I might spend 20 hours total over the 5 weeks on each course. Once you get past your first course, you will know the expectations of most of the professors and TA's. It really isn't hard work, just busy work. Currently I just have the gerontology, assessment, and NRSE 4600 left.

Find some good article sites. I use UpToDate, which is free to me through work, as my main resource. Awesome articles and you rarely (very rarely) find anything older then 5 years old.

Ohio Link which is offered free through OU is great for finding articles. I miss it so much.
