  1. Sorry if someone has asked this before, this is a very long thread! Has anyone ever "fought" to transfer a class with OU and won? I have a women's studies class I took at 100 level, and the course at their institution is a 1000 level- AND the course description sounds extremely similar.. but they aren't accepting it on my DARS. Any idea who to take this up with?
  2. I'm taking Chem 113 online now and having a great experience so far! I HATE chem but I've actually learned things- and don't feel like a complete moron like I did in high school when I took it. I don't dread logging on to see what is due, I really am pleasantly surprised because I thought this would be a nightmare. I am nervous for the final but hoping that keeping my grades higher right now will save me if I bomb it.
  3. I would start with one nursing course. They are all structured the same way- so after you get that first one down you can decide if you want to do more than that. I usually take one every 5 weeks along with a pre req that lasts the whole semester. I average about 3-5 hours per week also. Usually at least 3 hours in one sitting to write a paper that is due. Don't worry, it goes fast. Hope this helps.
  4. I think it'll be a refreshing change. I'm moving there from an Observation Unit (6-7 pt ratio). I am coming up on my first year of nursing I did my transitions in an ICU and I loved it but couldn't get a job there. When I shadowed ED they threw me right into an intubation and I felt like I was back in the ICU until I moved onto the next patient. So much variety. You have that critical care experience to draw from and that will be so helpful. Good luck!
  5. I have had an hour commute for over 4 years and I do just fine but 1.5 hours would do me in. I've interviewed for positions 1.5 hours away and there is no way I'd be able to do it after 12 hours. Not to mention you'll get out late more often than on time.. especially if you are planning on doing 12 hour shifts. You'll never get any sleep and you'll be under enough stress since this will be your first job. I wouldn't do it.. keep searching you'll be glad you did.
  6. I needed to see this. I am also a mellow type B kinda girl. I am miserable in the hospital setting.. As I suspected I would be. I've been thinking maybe I made a mistake starting a career change in nursing but I think I just need a change in scenery. Thank you for sharing.
  7. Do we work on the same floor? Getting overflow must be an ongoing issue with observation units. I started my first job on a newly opened obs floor in August and I should have known better to run.. But I didn't. I wanted experience. What I got was a terrible orientation, which set an uneven foundation for my career- and endless anxiety resulting from trying to function on a unit that is all over the place. Now like you I want to transfer but am not "eligible" until May. What to do..
