How many books do you have to buy?

This is mostly for LPN students since that is the program I am starting. Everybody else is welcome to reply:) But, don't include your books for A&P, college math, microbiology, etc. I just want to know about the books you have to buy that are for nursing courses. Also, how much are these costing you guys? My jaw dropped when I saw my total for books close to $1000:stone I am used to the $200 to $250 price range I've been at for the past year. I am also used to carrying around 3 maybe 4 books at the most to all of my classes. I have to tote around 23 books this year. They told us we would need every single one, so we need to invest in a huge book bag with rollers. Ha! Caaaaaaaaaaaan't wait:chuckle

23 books???!!!! WOW!!!

For my entire program we only had to purchase 14 books total. We had to buy 11 of those for the 1st semester. Before reading your post I used to think that was alot. :chuckle

For fall I'll be buying my final book (14th) for the program. It focuses on psych nursing and will cost about $65.

No more nursing books for me until I start an RN to BSN program!

Do we count Pharm? If so, I have 10 books specifically for nursing! :)

LOTS! I think we had at least 15 required, then another 5 or so recommended. My first year I spent approximately $800 on books. The good news is that when I start my RN year this fall I will only need to buy another three books or so.

I would say pharmocology counts.

I don't get it. Why do we have so many books? Some of these have to be study guides or something! I'll check.

Remember you will probably be buying a drug guide, diagnostic book, care plan book, and medical dictionary. These will last the whole year.

Yeah, it's a lot of books the first time around.

I bet that is it, Veronica. I have one book that has a study workbook that goes with it. If you have lots of study guides to go with it, it can really add up! Maybe some reference books as well?

I'm in a BSN program, and once I buy my fall books I'll have a total of 29. Total cost of around $1200. Those books will be the ones we use for the next 2 years, though, so if you take that into account the per semester book price isn't so bad. (I've spent $500/semester for books when I was only taking 3 classes!)

For this Fall sememster I have to buy 13 (2 are only recommended). Got all 13 and spent just over $500 online. Not sure how much it would have been at the college since they claim they won't know prices until mid-august. Yea, right.

I have bought 8 books for my first sememester. It was around $500. No clue what the other semesters will require for books cause we all know how it seems to change every semester

I won't know how many books that I'll have to purchase until I buy my syllabus on Monday....the booklist is in the syllabus....everybody is trying to make money.... :stone. We were told to expect to spend a minimum of $800 and that most of the books will be utilized throughout the 2 yrs...which is a good think. My professor did tell us the titles of the 3 of the books that we will not need until Spring 2005....one of the books cost $159 :uhoh3:
