How many attempts did it take you to get into the nursing program?

Nurses General Nursing

I know that nursing is a competitive course, especially at the school that I'm attending, they're only accepting the top forty!

How many attempts did you guys make? Is it more or less likely to get in on the first attempt?

I was accepted the first time I applied. The school was also more on the costly side as it was a university, but with satellite campuses that could accommodate accepting a high number of applicants. The community colleges that my friends were waiting to get into took two-three years as the wait-list was lengthy. I had entered and exited the nursing program before some of my friends even STARTED. Perhaps check into many different schools to find the best fit, shortest waiting list, and number of applicants that can be accepted each semester :) Good luck to ya! :)

1 attempt. I only applied to one nursing school and had no "backup" so to speak so its a good thing I got in :)

I got in on my first attempt. Thankfully I applied, I was too scared but was encouraged to and I start in January!

Future NNP

I applied to 5 programs, with a 3.8 GPA,and having scored an 89 on the TEAS. I also had 1 year of volunteering in a hospital, and doing public health research as an intern with a university. I got into only 1 BSN program, but on a wait list for another. The one that accepted me is 90 miles away from where I live, and I am now 1/3rd of the way through the BSN program. The one I got on the wait list for is only a subway ride away from where I live. When people find out where I live and then where I go to school they ask me why didn't I go to school somewhere closer. That's when the conversation usually ends. People have no idea.

1st attempt, but I traveled down the private school route...

LVN program was at a private nonprofit school that had been in the community nearly 40 years. LPN-to-ASN program was at a private for-profit school that accepted anyone with an active LPN license on a first come/first serve basis. Online BSN program was completed at a private nonprofit school with a mega online presence.

I applied to 1 program and was accepted the first time. Years later and I still remember opening that envelope.

One full application and acceptance; one withdrawn application when the (hybrid) program realized they wouldn't be able to give me visa eligibility (but were incredibly nice and transparent about it, and refunded my application fee). The government/immigration powers that be need to catch up with the real world in terms of online/hybrid courses counting towards full-time studentship!

Still remember getting home and the sense of gratitude when I opened the acceptance pack!

I applied for mostly Accelerated BSN programs and one MSN program for people without a nursing degree. I applied to at least 6 different programs - 3 in state and 3 out of state. I got rejected by one, waitlisted by two, and accepted to three.

For my top choice program, I applied to two different rounds and got waitlisted both times. I was debating on which out of state program (2 of them had accepted me) to go to when my top choice told me I was in. Part way through the program, the other school that waitlisted me told me I was in as long as I could start next week.

My advice: do everything you can to make yourself the best candidate possible and keep trying.
