How long did it take for you to get your RN?...

....including all pre-reqs and nursing school or diploma?

i started my pre reqs in sept. of 2003 and just graduated may 2007, with my associate applied science in nursing.

Specializes in ED, Hospice, ICU, Trach and vent.

Several points in my reply...1) it took me 3 1/2 years to get my RN. I got all my pre-reqs first and got those going p/t for 1 1/2 years...then went thru RN program for 2 years. 2) Can't answer for any other RN's, but I do not look down on LPN's. I learned more in my first job in ER from an LPN than I did from anyone else.

I do feel that if you want to be an RN to just go ahead and do it first, otherwise you are just adding time onto schooling.

That's not always possible. I was an LPN for 3 years before going on for my RN. I chose to go that route as a single mom in order to finance my way through school.

With a prior A.S., it took 1.5 years of pre-requs (part time) and 2 years of nursing core classes (clinical and lectures). The last semester was full time, although as far as I was concerned, the last two YEARS were full time, considering how much I put into them!

Specializes in Psych.

One year for LPN.

Eighteen months for ADN- Three Semesters........

Wanting to go back for more:idea:

It took 3 full semesters to do my pre-reqs (16 classes) and it will be 4 semesters for the nursing program, so 3 1/2 years total for my ADN.

Then I plan to take the 10 classes I'll need for my AA so I can get into a university. After that I'll work on my BSN part-time, so I'm guessing another 3 years total for my BSN.

And if I've still got another round in me after that, I really want to go to school for my MSN/CNM. That was my main goal when starting on my nursing journey, but with 3 boys at home and a family business, I have to do it all in baby steps. I'll get there someday. I'm thinking 9 years total from housewife to midwife, though it might have to be spread out a bit.
