The employment shortage for new grad nurses is a big scare on most threads on here. In most cases though I see that the longest time it took someone to find a job as a new grad was about 1 year. Please share your experiences on how long did it take you to find a job as a new grad, in which state and how did you land your job. Feel free to include other details.
Guys thanks for the replies. Let us stick to the post though and rather than asking questions to each-other please share your experiences on the job hunting and finding experience, thanks!

Well since it is my question, I would like it to go in a certain direction without loosing its focus. I do not mean to hold anybody from expressing themselves but I think that sometimes threads take unexpected turns that don't serve their original purpose.
This thread is to show with some data what is the average time that it takes new grad nurses to find jobs. I think in this way people who are still in nursing school can evaluate more correctly what is going on in the industry rather than with unfounded comments of people who express just opinions.
Again thanks for the replies guys and keep writing, I think a lot of people are interested in this kind of data!
I passed the NCLEX July 31, 2008. Had a job in LTC begiinning of Sept 2008. Got hired 16 hrs a week at a hospital in MArch 2009 even though I worked full time hours. Full time position in Oct 2009 at same hospital.
For a full time hospital -medsurge posiiton 1 year and 3 months from the time I passed NCLEX.
I would suggest to just get your foot in the door. Even if it is only for per diem. Once a full time postion opens up you can apply for it. It was hard because I did not have insurance but you do what you have to do.
I graduated in December 2009 and found a job in about 3 months, but I had to relocate and it is not in a hospital. Also, I had applied for 100+ positions since September 09, mostly in Washington DC and I didn't get any encouragement there so I broadened my search and that's how I found this job. I'm still getting rejection emails from all the places I applied to before, haha. I'm thankful to have a job.
Technically 3 months after graduating, but from the time I started applying, it was one month. We just moved (across the country), so I was really worried, because I have no connections in this area (we moved due to my husband's military assignment, so I had no real influence in where we ended up). I'm very fortunate, though, and I was offered a job last week and start in a few weeks, in a med/ surg unit. I'm in the Northern VA/ DC area.
