I graduated in July, took NCLEX in October and passed..in December I got 3 job offers! I accepted one and worked there for 2 weeks, had a emergency family situation and had to quit, now I'm looking for another job and not having any luck...I think I got lucky the first time around. I know of several classmates that did have luck finding jobs right away...Good Luck!
When I decided to go back to school to be a nurse, I started looking for a job in a SNF. Everyone thinks the only job out there for nursing students is CNA, but I worked happily as an activities assistant for two years. By that time, every resident and every employee, from laundry services to the administrators, knew me, and knew I was in nursing school. It was just a natural progression for me to go to the nursing dept. I was training within 6 weeks after graduation, and most of that time was just to wait for my GPN permit to come. I have to say, being an activities assistant was the best job I ever had. It was nothing but fun and games, literally. It only paid a couple dollars above minimum wage, or else I'd still be doing it!!! :heartbeat
Are you working yet? If so, how long did it take for you to find employment?
I'm not working yet because I want a job in the NICU, and that can be a little harder to get into. I'm applying right now for a job, so hopefully I won't be unemployed for too much longer. I say take it quickly just because you don't want to forget any nursing knowledge you have!
