How long did you study?

Nursing Students NCLEX

HI everyone!

I'm scheduled to take the nclex-rn this month, but I keep thinking I need more time. No particular reason, I'm just nervous. I even look to switch my date every day (already switched it once). For those who have already taken your exam, how long did you study? Was it CONSISTENTLY or was it off and on. For those waiting to test, how long will you have studied by your test date. I will have studied off and on since the middle of May and consistently since the end of June.

Sincerely,

Terrified of NCLEX

I graduated May 14th. The next week I took a 4 day review course (8 hours per day).

I studied about 1-4 hours per day after than until I took the test on June 24th. I did take a few days off, too.

The only reason I waited so long was because my application to the BON took several weeks. Most of my classmates from nursing school were testing in another state and took their tests 1-3 weeks after graduation.

Statistics show that people who wait longer to take the NCLEX after graduating tend to do worse. A 2002 study by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) found that when students took the NCLEX-RN 0 to 26 days after graduation, the first-time pass rate was 89.2 percent. Waiting for 27 to 39 days after graduation reduced the first-time pass rate to 86.1 percent. A delay of 40 to 62 days resulted in a first-time pass rate of 81.1 percent. For those who waited more than 63 days, the first-time pass rate fell to just 51 percent.

So don't put off your test any longer. Take the exam on the date that you have scheduled. A few more days/weeks of studying probably won't make the difference between a pass and a fail at this point. No one ever feels completely ready for the NCLEX.

I studied about two and a half weeks total. One week was consistent and that's all I did. Just took mine two weeks ago and passed. I was worried and came close to rescheduling, but I think it may be best to just get it over with. It's different for everyone, though - you just have to study as much as you feel comfortable with without overdoing it. When you go in to take it just try to stay as calm as you can - that was the biggest thing, for me at least! All the best to you! :anpom:

You answer those questions first, then I will.

???

A little confused. I posted in my first post that I studied off and on since May and consistently since the end of June.

Hey- shescoolie! I remember you from the threads for BC! Congrats on graduating. We graduated together and didn't know it, lol. I just took the NCLEX Friday and found out today I passed!

Haha, I just typed that when you were typing.

I don't know what advice I can give really. The questions didn't seem hard, but most of the answers seemed right! There's 6 of us that took the exam so far from my campus and so far everyone passed. We all did our studying differently. My friend did the Kaplan class and then a ton of questions. Another did just the Kaplan book and a ton of questions. I did Hurst review (at home). Watched all the review videos for 3 hrs a day until they were done, then I did the Kaplan book, then I did the Hurst Mock Nclex and then the Kaplan practice test in the back of the book. I had Saunders but I was afraid to use that because when I did the questions before the NS exams, they always seemed easy (although they do give good rationales). I always thought Lippencott was harder, but I didn't have any more time to do any more questions. Just do some reviewing, and do some questions. Good luck. When is your test?

Thanks! At least our school has a 95% pass rate, so your odds are great!
