Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

How long did you guys spend on prerequisite classes ? (I start mine in August so if you have any advice , I'd love to hear it)

I went to an ADN program and took my prereqs in 2 semesters plus 1 summer session.

Fall semester (14 credits): A&P1, Psychology, Microbiology, and Algebra (required course at my school and not allowed to test out of it)

Spring semester (14 credits): A&P2, Pathophysiology/Pharmacology, Statistics (intro level), and Medical Terminology

Summer semesters (6 credits): English, Sociology

I applied at the end of the Spring semester and got in for the following fall.

Hope this helps!

It took two years for me; both with summer school. I also took extra easy classes to boost my GPA since the nursing school I applied took in current GPA into consideration.

Those are a lot of science classes. If they have 3-4 hour labs and discussions every week like mine did, taking them in a year would be a scheduling nightmare. They would've been spread over two years in my BSN program, but maybe talk to students who are already in the program?

It took me 4 semester/two years. There were pre-reqs to the pre-reqs. I had to remind myself to be patient and just keep going. I've been accepted to the nursing program for the Fall semester, and I only have the core nursing classes to do, which is great.

ETA: I finished all the actual pre-reqs in three semesters, but my school only starts nursing classes once a year. Spring 2017 I finished some co-reqs.

Yes!! I thought the same! My plan was to be done in about a year and then I got hit with the prerequisites for the prerequisites!! I finished all of my required prerequisites in 2 years and that's also because I took summer and winter courses so I could finish sooner. I took about 12-14 units each semester and one class in the summer and winter. I was also fortunate to take the classes that I needed when I needed them. I had priority registration and that helped me. I also had to take classes at other colleges because sometimes they weren't offered at my home college. Just do your research and know you'll eventually finish. Good luck!!!!

It took me 4 semester (2 years) and 1 summer session to finish all my prerequisites for a bachelor program. Which is fine since I'm relatively young (turning 20 next month) and I will be starting nursing school this fall and will hopefully finish in two years.

I had to take all of my general education and humanities, plus my nursing prerequisites and sciences. This equated to 60 credit hours.

So just remember that there is no rush and you will still have the rest of your life to work as a nurse, so enjoy your time now that you have it and take those prerequisites one step at a time to get the best graded you can get.

I started spring 2017

so far I've taken gen bio, psych, profession of caring, humanities and A&P1

I'm having another baby in December so I may not be able to take spring classes

I wish I could finish my prerequisite faster 😢

It took me about 2 years. As some of the other posters have stated, there are pre-reqs for the pre-reqs which I found out as I started to enroll in my pre-reqs for nursing. But I also took it slowly and did only 1 course a semester and some of the pre-reqs were waived because I am a degree holder going into nursing as my second career from my BA. It is different for everyone and it also depends on your goal.

I started in the fall 2016 having taken 3 courses. In the spring 2017 I took another three courses, including some sciences. This summer I am taking three courses again, two of them are sciences. Now, this coming fall 2017 and next spring 2018 I will be taking one science each. That is it, I am done next spring!!!

I'm applying for an ADN program next month after taking the HESI entrance exam. Luckily, it only took me a spring and summer semester to complete the pre-req courses. My school requires English, a general ed math course, A&P 1 and 2, psychology, human development, and science of nutrition. I was able to earn an A in each course! Microbiology and a humanities course are not pre-reqs but you are expected to complete them while in the nursing program. (Usually taken in the summer) This fall I am taking statistics and chemistry as pre-reqs so I can do a RN - BSN program later on.
