  1. Hi everyone, I recently passed boards and was offered a job at the local hospital. Until my license comes through, I will be working as a tech. I was trained as a tech for 1 week (three 12-hour day shifts) but I made a few mistakes. I forgot to place the call bell next to one patient before I left the room and I also took too long with completing some tasks. I'm beginning to feel like I won't be a decent nurse if I make mistakes such as these. Am I being too hard on myself? Or should I take this as a wake up call that nursing may not be the best job for me? The 2 techs I was with didn't seem too thrilled about having to train me. Thanks for any advice.
  2. I definitely don't envy them. I feel LUCKY compared to them. Do I sometimes wish, in the early hours of the morning, that I could go back to bed? Hell yes. But I wouldn't trade that for being sick!
  3. Hi everyone, I am a new grad who just accepted an RN position at a large hospital in Michigan. I took the nclex and passed, so now im just waiting for the license to post online. Until then, I have to work as a tech on this unit. I have never worked as a tech before, so i shadowed a couple of the techs for a week (36 hours). My boss gave me an extra day of training, and I think she did this because the techs gave her a bad report about me. I got the feeling they weren't thrilled about having to train me, and it didn't help that I forgot a couple things. On one of the days, I helped a patient back to bed from her chair and I forgot to move the call light next to her before I left the room. Another time, I guess I took too long putting a tele monitor on a patient because one of the monitor techs walked in the room and just grabbed it and finished putting it on for me. And there were a couple of other "little" things I caught myself forgetting to do as well. I try to be as helpful as possible and I always ask the other techs and nurses if they need help with anything. I don't mind doing "tech work", I'm just feeling kind of frustrated with myself that I'm not doing as well as I hoped. Am I being too hard on myself? Are these things expected to happen with a new job?
