How long to get RN (ADN)

I'm taking my pre req's right now. I'm only going part time because I currently have to full time. I was wondering how long it took to get your ADN and if you went full or part time. Thanks, Jennifer

Depending on how many pre-reqs you have to take it can take anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 years.

If there is a waiting list in your area, that may considerably lengthen the time of study.

There are a few ADN/ASN programs that take student with no college credit and are exactly two years long.

Since you have to work full time, have you considered taking a few pre-req's online? You can study in your time off and if you can keep yourself organized knock out alot of those classes quickly.

I actually am taking some classes on line. I've never attended college before so this semester I'm taking English, Psych 101, and Intermediate Algebra (I have to take this because I did not get a high enough score on my entrance test)

The only class I'm taking at school is Psych because I could not get it online. I plan on doing the same next semester as well but because I have to take all the Science classes I need to do them in person.

It sounds like you are well on your way! Those classes will keep you busy. I took Psych online and I really liked it. I learned alot of neat stuff.

Good luck to you.

I went full time for my pre-reqs and about 9 credits/semester for the core classes. I started classes in Fall of 2002. I will graduate in May 2006. So a total of just about 4 years.

Good Luck!

2 classes sem 1

4 classes sem 2

2 classes sem 3

1 class sem 4 and 5

so that was about 2 1/2 years part time and I start my ASN Program Aug. 22 for 4 more semesters.

Total = 4 years (I began in May of 2003 and I will graduate in May 2007)

It's taking me 7 semesters to get my ADN. 2 semesters full time for prereq's and then 5 semesters of nursing classes. Going year round it will take me 2yrs 4 months.

It only took my classmates and myself four semesters to obtain our degree. We did not have any pre-requisites, only co-requisites.

Our program is 5 semesters if you follow their "master plan" and assuming you get accepted right away. The 1st semester (fall) is pre-reqs that are required for acceptance. The final 4 semesters are nursing classes and core classes. You can apply for nursing school at any time during your pre-reqs or core classes, but we only start 1 class a year (each Jan.) Strongly recommended that you get as much of the "core" classes done before starting your nursing classes. Some of the students in my classes have been in school for 2 years already waiting for acceptance into the program, during the wait they just took some more core classes. I have a previous degree so all my pre-reqs and core classes were done before I started nursing school.

Once I started the actual nursing program it is 4 semesters or 2 years of school. We do not go to school during the summer.

It took me two years of doing prereqs and sitting on the waiting list before I was accepted. I start in August and have another two years of actual Nursing school until I get my ADN.

Hi Jenna

It took me 2 years for preReqs.....I just finished my CoReq A&Pll. Will Start the Nursing Program in September. :)

My advice is to do it at a pace that is comfortable for you. This way you will do well and most likely get good grades. I have see some rush it but get grades they were not happy with. Remember your GPA is very important when applying, along with the results of nursing entrance exam.

It took me 3 1/2 years only cause I had to take remedial math and catch up on that. But everything else went smoothly and I went full time fall, spring, summer
