How I passed my test for the second time

Okay I am very new at this...as of matter fact I just joined not to long ago.I come up here all the time and I just felled in love with this website...okay this is my story....i just graduated May and I took my test in August...I failed my test with 91 questions...I was so embrassed and I felt dumb....I really felt bad because I am a single mother and I felt like I disappointed my child. I took a week before I studyed again....First of all let me start off saying I think that everything happens for a reason. The reason that I am saying this is because right after I failed my test...my son had to have surgery. My nerves were shot!!! I wouldn't have been a good nurse right then because my emotions and nerves were all over the place!!!!

I took my test the 3rd. I just found out that I pass today. I also prayed and put trust in GOD for letting me pass the test.

This is how I studied: First I got the Comperhensive Review for NCLEX-RN Reviews and Rationales by Mary Ann Hogan. I had to use this book at the end of my semster. I felled in love with this book. Another thing I like about this book is that it is from Pearson. Another study tool that I used was Mosby's 2nd Edition for the Review Cards NCLEX-RN Examination and you can take these cards anywhere. If I had a long day I would take these cards in the bathroom (take a bath) and just do questions. I did about 100-200 questions a day.

Welcome and thanks for sharing your story. I love to read success stories. Congradulations on passing. How is your son? ((( HUGS ))) I hope he is better now. Good luck in your new career.:heartbeat

Congrats! Best of Luck in your new career!

Thank you, Nishababy for sharing your experience and for recommending books. I am a new member, just joined a few days ago. I failed the NCLEX exam for the second time. I took the second Oct.15th of last month. I got my result in two weeks. Since then, I have been pondering how to strategize the next exam. I had an appreciation of the review per anatomical system but nothing that I learned seemed to help me even in the elimination process. I found the choices quite similar and had a hard time basically eliminating options. The prioritization questions kept on going and before I knew it, the computer stopped at the more than 150Q. For my resources, I focused on Saunder's 4th Edition and read Mary Ann Hogan's Child Health Nursing. Both proved helpful to me in a way as I've come accross some items I've encountered in these books. I was not able to read LaCharity's prioritization book and I knew before taking the test that I needed a lot of catching up in that aspect but I needed to take the test anyway. Is there any other book recommendation for me? I have not reapplied yet for the NCLEX as I need to wait for 45 days prior to reapplication. I need all the help I can get for the next time, the third time I will be taking the NCLEX! :typing

Hello Jadeeluck, I totally understand where you are coming from...I used to have the same problem...I could eliminate two answers right off the bat but then I would get stuck between the other two answers....What I did was kept doing questions (practice, practice, practice)!!!! Then when I stumble across a question that I didn't understand I would take my Comprehensive Review Book by Mary Ann Hoagan and look up that paticular topic....next thing I knew I was getting better chosing between the two. I also used Maslow Hierarchy of human needs. Always remember that physiological needs always come first. I hope that helps!!!!

Don't never give up!!!! God wouldn't bring this far and give up!!!! Let me know if you need to ask me something about the books that I used or anything!!! Hang in there and everything will work itself out!!!!!:nurse:
