Each military branch has their own civilian personnel site. You can also go to USAJobs.gov. This has all the federal agencies. Make sure any site you go to ends in *.gov or * mil. HTH :-)
i dont really understand the pay grade and how they hire at USAJOBS. i graduated with my BSN this past December2008 and im looking for a new grad position. i have no RN experience other than experience only as a CNA. Will the military still hire a new grad. Most of the position says 1 year of experience.

does read like greek:
"in addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicant must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level which equipped the applicant with the knowledge of an extensive range of professional nursing theories, principles and procedures to provide highly specialized comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout the continuum of care (e.g. acutely ill to seriously or terminally ill). duties require extended specialized training and experience. knowledge of medical care and treatment of patients with acute, chronic and cancer pain".
wow mandatory one year minimums???
thats what i mean. what does the pay grade mean and i dont understand the whole jazz about the experience wise. so military hospitals dont hire new grads or should i inquire with the individual hospital. whats the best way to do this.

I think getting a job in a military hospital or VA system is half skill, half luck. You might get hired as a new grad but since there are many applications to government jobs they don't have to hire new grads. A lot of time they hire on a point system. you get points if you are a veteran, points for a spouse of veteran, points for different times served as a veteran, etc,, there are quite a few but I can not recall at this time. My advice, never give up, but don't wait for it. If you get your experience in med-surg and the only job that comes up is OR, you still would not qualify, unless you just get lucky. Get what you want first than where second.
Good Luck.
someone told me most hospitals still apply through word of mouth. they wont place the position online right away or its only in house.
i hope i can find a job. would love to start at the military hospital since my husband is an active duty marine. i figure if we pcs it would be easy to move to another military hospital.
do you know the actual addresses?
yes i know the address. will i have to go there in person?

Hey there, I am having similar questions. My husband was stationed at Schofield and my understanding (from many valued sources) is that Tripler required 1 year experience before accepting new grad nurses. I am know in Colorado Springs and have heard that I might be able to apply right away (I graduate in May), but it is hard to get the straight answer! I wondered if maybe because Tripler is such a big hospital, that they chose to have those standards, but maybe the smaller clinics take on new grads?? I just don't know. I keep hearing from people to just apply, and to be VERY aware of the job listing. From what I have heard, you have to completely tweak your resume with keywords and areas you would not necessarily think relevent in a cilivian resume into the fed system. Since it is all computerized initially, without the necessary key words, resumes just get put by the waysid. This whole job market right now is stressing me out! Hope everyone else is doing better!
If anyone has any answers about new grad positions in the military- Active duty, VA- are they available right away?? I would love to work in that setting, but the federal job search can be confusing!
