How to get your feet wet

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I am in my early 40's and have always wanted to be a nurse but do not know if I have what it takes. I was thinking about getting a part time job as an "home health care helper" to get my feet wet. Then pursue my CNA.:uhoh3: Any suggestions?

I think that is a wonderful idea. Keep in mind that nurses come in all ages. If it is in your heart, then GO FOR IT!!

I am not a nurse, but I am pretty much going to same rout to becoming an LPN. I am going to take a CNA course, then work as a CNA.If all goes well then I will go to school for my LPN next year. I think you are making a good decision to ease into nursing. If you like it then go on.If you don't then I think it is better to know before you start nursing school. Good luck!!!

Hello THIS site is WONDERFUL.

i dont know how to post a new thread so ill use this one. But i am starting a 16 day cna training program at a LTC. i have worked as a pca before but i have been wanting to take a LPN course. And the require you to have a entrance exam, but i have horrible math skills and i failed it once. I want to get into it so badly. Do you think once i get my cna they wont make me take the entrance test?

Unfortunately, you will probably have to take the entrance exam whether you are a CNA or not (I don't know what school you are talking about, but this is usually how it is...someone else may be able to contribute something else). Nursing does require that you know basic math, when calculating drug dosages. What I would do is take a remedial math class once you get your CNA and keep practicing the skills even after the class is over. Most community colleges have math review classes for adults, and the instructors are usually very patient with their students. Also, if the LPN school you want to attend is competitive, they usually take the students that have the highest grade...not just passing alone. Some may, but, you have to know how competitive the school is to begin with, and it is better to try and pass as high as you can. Good luck.

I know this is a really stupid question but, what the heck is an LTC?

People are like to me go to an LTC, and I feel foolish asking what it is?
