Houston RN pay?

U.S.A. Texas

Hi, y'all!

I'm planning to relocate to Houston or Conroe this coming year. Does anyone know how much money RNs generally make? Thanks! :D

So roughly $41,600~47,840/year assuming 40 hours of work/week for 52 weeks?

That's not considering any shift differentials or overtime-- most people work 7 days a pay period (84 hours).

Also, the lowest offers I've seen are right at $23. Most are now $24 up to $28 in the medical center.

I'd say 36 hours per week. (three 12h/shifts).

If I only get 3 shifts a week you better believe as soon as I have 6 mo. experience I'll be taking a PRN position elsewhere.

I know a LVN who used to work 2 16-hour shifts back-to-back on Sat and Sun but they counted it as 40 hours.

Are there many weekend only positions like this available?

Overtime pays better than prn in most cases. Do the math.

prn varies from $33 to 35/h - no benefits (no pto)

overtime is time and a half... plus benefits

There's no doubt overtime pays well-- that's why I want it.

What I said is that if, after internship, the position or facility I'm in makes it difficult for me to get that 4th day at least every other week, I will have to make up for that by picking up PRN elsewhere. I don't plan to work merely 36 hours a week, nor do I wish to be paid for only 36 hours a week, so I will find complimentary work elsewhere. There's no reason I should settle for less than $60K after shift differentials, overtime, PRN shifts, etc. as a new grad.

Oh, I see...I agree w/ you. And I also think you won't have trouble doing overtime. ZHospitals are always in need of staff.... Keep eyes and ears tunned to the bonuses that sometimes they offer to get nurses to do OT, especially on nights....

I was within that range with 10 months worked and ONE OT shift. most of the time there's PLENTY of OT available but you need to watch out with that because it can bump you into another tax bracket where it's really not worth your time.

Anybody know what the pay rate is if you work for a hospital's float pool? I heard the pay increase is pretty nice.

There's nothing wrong with being bumped into a new tax bracket- you only get taxed at that rate for dollars in that bracket, not your entire income.

How common are weekend positions where you can work 2 16-hour shifts back to back?

Does anyone know what the Cristus hospital pay for a nurse with 2 years in postpartum and 5 years of nursing?

The 2 Christus Hospitals in Houston are in Katy and Nassau Bay (Clearlake).
