Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2020

Hi has anyone heard from HCA (any of them and clear lake)! Also do we know which applications and when open up for the Winter programs for Houston and dallas!

HCA sent an email out today to August grads saying the do not have a date for when Fall/Winter cohort will take place. I think they are trying to take care of the May grads first since they've been out of job opps for a few months.

I think Houston Methodist Winter cohort app dates open September 1. Not sure about other hospitals!!

They called me on Monday about their ICU, but I told them I had accepted another offer (was actually at work when I answered the call).

I just accepted a job for their OR residency at clear lake. They gave me the offer about two weeks ago, and I start training next week. I graduated in May. But I heard that they only gave two positions for all the units for their residency at the clear lake location so far and it was for the OR (don’t know if that’s true but I hope this helps!)

I don’t remember if she mentioned the location. I was at work and a million things were going on ? so I just told them I took another ICU job. They were nice and said thanks for letting them know and good luck.

Was the new ICU job a residency or just actual staffing employment? If so where if you don’t mind?

Did you mean my job or what HCA was calling about? I didn’t catch the location if they mentioned one because I was handling a few things at work.

For my work, I accepted the offer for MD Anderson ICU back in early March. It is a residency but they ended up not having a Summer residency group bc they stopped hiring I think. I still started my job last month, and they said there may be a residency class for October that I can join if they have one. I’ve heard from a lot of the other nurses the residency classes aren’t that big of a deal though, and the most important is the clinical orientation with the preceptor (which I’ve been doing).

Yes I was curious about where you work now. Are MD Anderson still hiring for ICU or Winter residency?

I don’t know if ICU will be hiring. I doubt it since they seem so busy and stretched thin. It does seem like they were planning to aim for a residency sometimes soon, though, since they told me I might have residency classes I can join in the fall or Winter. I would keep checking their website to see if they have an application open up. I hope that helps some!

Yea. I’m starting the STarRN program in the medical center this Monday August 24th. They have finished interviews for the Summer. The have a cohort starting August 31st as well. I want to believe they will open applications for fall in September for a October or November start.

After the first wave for the last Summer cohort, they didn’t send many offers. When I tried to get in touch again, she just kept saying that positions are opening up but then ghosted everyone. No email about an offer or a rejection. I’m hoping this cohort is different bc it was horrible last time ? hope we get better news!
