Quick question here for some of us not in residency. Is there any hospital hiring new graduate licensed nurse that you guys hear of in Houston?. I keep applying on indeed.com but not really forth coming most I don’t even hear back and some I just get automated response few minutes later that they are not considering my application. Very frustrating.

If you’re willing to travel a little, the Medical Center of Southeast Texas is hiring new grads. They have the applications on their websites! They are needing help so try them for sure! Not a residency program though. You just get a preceptor for 12 weeks at least

Not a hospital but I'm working pediatric home health with Angels of Care until I start in the hospital, the money is good and you can pick your patient

I’m planning on applying with Angels of Care if I don’t get a residency for this Fall. I NEED a job come early to mid Sept... would AOC kind of let me choose when I start? I’ve heard you basically pick your schedule. Just want to make sure it’s not difficult to find shifts!

With angels of care do you stay with one patient all day or do you go to multiple patients daily?

Yes, they are very flexible! Basically I called a recruiter and the next day I went to orientation/onboarding and they will try to find cases within your zipcode and its basically up to you when you decide to accept a case and meet with family and stuff. It could be difficult if there wasn't a case you wanted near you is the only thing depending how far you would drive!

One patient! And you can do full time part time or PRN. Right now I'm just part time 2 days a week 9-9. But if you didn't

want to do 12h shift I don't think you have to

I’m not too sure on the numbers but there are about 25 people in the current cohort. From what I’ve seen I think the hospital is great and they’re really doing well with accommodating the residency during these crazy times.
For the interview I would just say to be yourself as everyone always says and make sure to look up their values because they’re huge on those and how those values align with how you want to practice nursing. I tried as much as possible to hint at their values/mission while I was answering their questions without blatantly saying it all the time. Practice and believe in yourself and be confident as well! You’ll kill it ?

This is great info! Thanks so much!

Do they train you really well at Angels of Care?

You can train with the nurse as many days as you want but only get paid for two I believe, they also have trach and vent class and TPN class if your patient has either. I haven't started yet but I'm training 2 days with the nurse since my patient isn't super complex! I also took the vent class and the RT was super helpful and you can always call them if there's a problem and the parents will know a lot. It's overwhelming at first but becomes routine bc you care for the same patient every time is what I've been told! They have a lot of new grads right now which made me feel more comfortable. I'm doing it until I get a hospital job.

Has anyone gotten an actual offer letter from HCA, or just verbal offers??
