I have an HCA update I spoke with the recruiter for about 10 minutes (honestly surprised she answered), this post may be a little scattered because she wasn’t clear, but I’m gonna post what I know.

1. They now have 1200 total applications. They opened even more so now they’re trying to consider August graduates, plus Spring so that’s a lot of people to go through. However, the people that interviewed on the 3rd have a better chance.

2. Every hospital is different, but right now everything is awful in general. The OR, elective surgeries, and different units are shutting down due to COVID, so instead of laying off those nurses, they’re moving them to fill in other units. This is causing less space to bring in new nurses. She also feels like it’s a sticky situation to bring in so many new grads with everything going on. It’ll just be a lot to walk into.

3. Apparently there are like 54 new grads from the February/March cohort that’s been accepted but still haven’t even been placed.

4. She said she will send out an update email next week

5. I asked when we can hear about acceptance. She said it could be a week from now, a month from now, or even maybe even longer depending on the hospital. But she will keep us updated & keep in touch with everything. It’s just a lot going on right now

6. For out of state folks, as of right now they are not offering relocation assistance. Also she noted that she feels like it’ll be better if you worked in your hometown, get that 1 year experience then apply as a regular nurse there. She said you’ll have a better chance at doing that than coming in as a new grad. Pretty much don’t put all your eggs in 1 basket.

I think I covered everything? In conclusion it’s a mess, a lot of applicants, no one is sure of anything due to covid, and it can take anywhere between another week to a month or so to get an official offer. Pardon any typos.

I guess I just don’t get why they are opening spots for more new grads when they don’t even have enough room for Spring grads as it is. Thank you for the update though!!

Not yet, but maybe today or tomorrow! Let me know if you hear anything

Hey! I still haven’t heard anything from SICU. Has your friend heard anything? I’m nervous about not getting in because the rise in COVID cases. The nurses said they’re under a great deal of stress with what they have now.

Not yet either, I'm guessing sometime next week. Maybe they just haven't gotten around to it yet

So should we apply to other cohort cause I see this morning they opened some other application tagged late Summer/fall?. This is all just a mess ?. Imagine going through all the stress finishing school and now all this mess. Houston Methodist is also just sending rejection to applicants without even interviewing first!!. I don’t understand wouldn't it be beneficial to the hospitals if they hire and train new grads for couple of weeks and let us all face COVID. Hospitals are short staffed yet closing their doors to new graduate. They need better strategy!.

I need a job so bad ? HCA is my only option so I have to just wait on them. I’m contemplating on working outside of the hospital until I hear back. How crazy does it sound to work in a nursing home of some sort until then?

Hospital frown on it starting up in nursing home ,but in this situation that they are all picky is better than just staying at home doing nothing. HCA is my last option too unless I have to apply for fall residency with other hospitals. I should have thought about all this before I move to Houston as a new grad. I am just about to drive around and see maybe some outpatient hospital or regional hospital are hiring or so.

I was going to look into working at an infusion/IV place in the meantime and be able to stay on top of some basic skills. I think home health is going to be my absolute last resort

I know that they prefer new grads with no experience, however I came to her with the same concerns. She told me that she wouldn’t mind if I started working and had a month or two of experience before they contacted me back because she knows the situation with everything going on. Personally if I don’t here anything by August 1st I’m going to just start working somewhere else.. & yes due to all the hectic hospital issues everywhere I’m thinking of a nursing home too.

@Tx29 Good question. You don’t need to apply again. I asked her this too. It’s hard to explain but the application you put out is all they will consider. There’s still Summer grads that out of fairness still need to considered. She said if they wanted to they’ll circle back to past applicants, but this isn’t something you get based off sending in multiple applications, especially if you interviewed already. Yes they’re short staffed, however they’re short staffed on experienced nurses, not new nurses. It’s messed up, I know. I guess we got unlucky graduating this year.

Disclaimer: Don’t lose any hope just yet you guys. They are STILL hiring new grads it’s just taking longer with limited openings

I don’t know if it’s still open or not, but St Luke’s had their applications open for their fall cohort! Also, home health is not a terrible option to start out in (at least that’s what I’ve heard). The only thing is that you probably wouldn’t have as good of a chance of getting new grad residency positions after you get experience but you can always apply to RN positions have a year.

Heard from MH Memorial City this morning with good news! Hopefully everybody else hears something today ??
