Starting a thread about Houston Nurse Residency programs that open this month/next to start in June/July!

Well I wanted NICU but that unit apparently wasn’t hiring and the only unit that was hiring that I was interested in was ER (which I have no experience in so I wasn’t shocked I got rejected ?)

I don’t get why we’re all struggling SO bad to land a job. I can’t even get a med surg position in Houston, but if I were staying in San Antonio I would have a PICU job like THAT! *snaps fingers* ??
Yeah I’m still waiting on HCA, but other than that it’ll be a fall residency for me too if I don’t get this job! ?

did they give you any further instructions besides the initial CONGRATS letter or when the formal letter should be coming?
I only got the initial CONGRATS email after they called me and offered me the job and it said in the email that in the next few weeks we should be getting the formal offer letter that we need to sign! I haven't posted anything or told anyone (besides my parents haha) about the job because I want to wait until I actually sign something!
Are you a Summer grad or did you graduate in May? I graduated in May and the only downside is that I feel like I have been out of the clinical setting for soooo long since we got clinical cut short because of COVID and now waiting until October to start is kinda making me nervous...

SMH. This is my second round. I was pretty much ghosted by St. Luke's in February (I think everybody was?) Children's didn't even want an interview, even though my GPA is great. I had a first interview at Methodist back in February and then heard nothing.... not a rejection even. And now I'm back to square 1.
St. Luke's and TCH ghosted me too for the Summer residencies.... Houston Methodist downtown put theirs on "hold" but never reached back out and I am assuming because they aren't going to actually have a Summer program but it was annoying because they never officially canceled it either...
Don't lose hope!r Reapply to St. Lukes because I think they still have their application open for the fall cohort. Or if you really want to work for memorial hermann, maybe check out their home health jobs!

Congratulations!! and yeah I don't want to jinx myself either so just going to wait for the formal offer!! Hopefully we get it soon. I actually graduated a bit ago, so its been awhile for me!! Not sure what the program completely entails but hopefully a little refresher will be nice!!

Hey did you hear back yet? I did and unfortunately I did not get an offer. The recruiter called me this morning and said they went with the other candidate. I think they are only hiring one person for the unit.

Same, she called me this morning too with a rejection. I agree with you, the way she worded it sounded like they were only taking one person, which is unfortunate. I'm hoping for a response from HCA now, but best of luck to you! Praying we all get offers eventually!
I have an HCA update I spoke with the recruiter for about 10 minutes (honestly surprised she answered), this post may be a little scattered because she wasn’t clear, but I’m gonna post what I know.
1. They now have 1200 total applications. They opened even more so now they’re trying to consider August graduates, plus Spring so that’s a lot of people to go through. However, the people that interviewed on the 3rd have a better chance.
2. Every hospital is different, but right now everything is awful in general. The OR, elective surgeries, and different units are shutting down due to COVID, so instead of laying off those nurses, they’re moving them to fill in other units. This is causing less space to bring in new nurses. She also feels like it’s a sticky situation to bring in so many new grads with everything going on. It’ll just be a lot to walk into.
3. Apparently there are like 54 new grads from the February/March cohort that’s been accepted but still haven’t even been placed.
4. She said she will send out an update email next week
5. I asked when we can hear about acceptance. She said it could be a week from now, a month from now, or even maybe even longer depending on the hospital. But she will keep us updated & keep in touch with everything. It’s just a lot going on right now
6. For out of state folks, as of right now they are not offering relocation assistance. Also she noted that she feels like it’ll be better if you worked in your hometown, get that 1 year experience then apply as a regular nurse there. She said you’ll have a better chance at doing that than coming in as a new grad. Pretty much don’t put all your eggs in 1 basket.
I think I covered everything? In conclusion it’s a mess, a lot of applicants, no one is sure of anything due to covid, and it can take anywhere between another week to a month or so to get an official offer. Pardon any typos.

I’m fed up tbh at this point some of us are never going to find a job?
