Houston Nurse Residency Spring 2021

Hello! I created this thread for those graduating in December who are applying to nurse residency programs in Houston for the Spring 2021 start date. Good luck everyone!!

I thought for sure Friday!! But it’s already 1pm so IDK now

I interviewed with PICU and I’m super nervous since others have received offers and I haven’t heard anything yet ?

I asked my friend and she said Sunday is the end of the week.not Friday soo everyone stay positive ????

Just received a phone call for an offer from Memorial Hermann for the Neuro Acute Care unit! They said I should expect to receive my offer package on Monday with additional details for me to review and that I have 24hours to respond. The person in HR also said they start all new grads at $29 (Memorial Hermann @ TMC). So not sure if that includes differentials and such but again they said it will all be detailed in the offer email. I was also told I was taking one of only 6 positions offered in the Neuro unit.

Yup! TMC, in the interview they told me they haven’t specified day or night positions yet and so that’s up in the air.

An email sent out my memorial Hermann a while back said that the 2nd round of match days would be scheduled for either Oct. 19 or 26. Since the first round was this week, I’m assuming that next week will be match days for second choice units? Unless they have all been already. I’m staying hopeful that we will get some calls this weekend ?

I just wanted to mention, in my interview I thought it would be nice to ask them some questions about the unit and hospital that were more out of the box. It seemed to help keep engagement and interest in the interview for what must be more monotonous for them.

Some questions I asked:

  1. What QI (quality improvement) work are you doing on your floor?   
  2. I see you're a level 1 trauma center, how does this affect interdisciplinary care in this unit? (aka do they have surgeons staffed 24/7 or are doctors mostly on call/who is the most senior staff)
  3. How does the unit flex if needed and do the nurses in your until hold extra certifications?
  4. Can nurse residents actively participate in meetings, or projects in the unit? (This was a follow up to the QI question.)

Has anyone gotten an offer from memorial Hermann TMC/Children’s for labor and delivery yet? I’m getting nervous!
