Houston Nurse Residency Fall 2024

Published

Hi! I'm graduating this August and plan on applying to positions in Houston in women's health and pediatrics. I wanted to create a thread so everyone can stay up to date on applications/interviews for the October 2024 Cohorts. Good luck!

Awesome thank you so much! I wanted to ask her about my application

did you decide what you are going to do after all? Is there maybe another unit that's less stressful other student mention maybe you can move to

So I was offered a switch to CVIMCU. Same acuity but more specific to cardiac rather than a general floor. I do know some people in that unit and they love it, but EKGs scare me LOL. I did get a call back from Angels of Care and I thought about it. But for reasons outside of my control, I couldn't take the offer. Trying to switch into women's wouldn't have been easy. I'd essentially be in limbo and jobless until I could get an offer in women's, which time-line wise could be months. I can't afford to do that. Add in that I wasn't given much time to decide so I kind of panicked and chose the "easy" route LOL. I haven't gotten a job offer elsewhere so I'm sticking it out on my unit until I can find another job. The plus side though is that I do actually have a good support system within the unit. My manager and preceptor have been very helpful and are very encouraging about me asking questions and for help.

I sincerely appreciate everyone's kind words. It really helped me feel better because I had no one outside of my job to talk to besides my boyfriend. I get along well with the other new grads on my unit and the overall cohort, but I'm not super close to any of them and they all seem to be enjoying their jobs. I didn't want to dampen anyone's mood. Thank you all so much 🥹🩷

Having a good support system at work is extremely helpful. The good thing is that you expressed yourself and they are there to help you. I feel like I would be the same afraid of a new unit and if the unknown glad you feel so much better

I am planning on doing that but Angels of Care only offered 2 days of training which I didn't think was enough. Is this what you plan on doing?

Called me, and next Tuesday!! Thanks!

have you heard anything from MDA yet?

Haven't heard back yet, in my interview they said 1-2 weeks so hopefully next week we will get some good news!

In case anyone was still looking for a job, Houston Methodist just posted a position for an RN I at their Emergency Room (Night Shift) that is accepted new grads as candidates! If selected, you would automatically be enrolled in their residency program

By chance, do you have the link for it?

Does anybody know if Houston Methodist has differentials for the TMC location and critical care (ICU, ER)?

Specializes in 2 years experience as PCT/Nurse Extern.

I'm starting in critical care (imu) in the med center and I don't believe there's differential. Only shift diff for nights
