Houston GN Residencies

I will be a new grad in May 2011 with my BSN and I have applied to a few residencies such as St. Luke's and Memorial Hermann, but I can't seem to find any of the other hospital's postings yet. Has anyone else been able to?

I haven't received an e-mail either. I talked to a friend today who is currently in the Ben Taub GN Internship program and she said that on Friday she was told that applications were still being reviewed and it could be another week or two before they start contacting ppl.

I know three people from my class that have interviews for HCHD at LBJ on thursday....guess they already went through the applications. ...no rumors...this is serious!

Shihtzu, that sounds about right from what I've been told by ben taub directly. I'm not sure what your classmates are interviewing for m-cabos, but the ben taub internship slots have not been interviewed for yet.

My classmates are interviewing for the GN position with HR at LBJ. I'm pretty sure they have to get started early...

Yes, but like I said previously - the director of nursing requested to personally go through all 500 applicants profiles and determine who was going to be interviewed. That did not start until today because she was out of the office all of last week. So, I was told by the nurse recruiter people would not begin hearing until this week or next. So, maybe they are two different internship programs, but I was under the impression they were all HCHD?

HCHD has two interview steps. All initial interviews are at lbj (w/ education director + recruiter) then if successful, you get to interview with the unit manager of your choice (either at lbj or ben taub). For the past internship in January, I heard every applicant was interviewed in step 1, not sure how this 1 will be. GL!

Yesuba you are right about the whole process. I had an interview today at LBJ for HCHD. They asked which hospital was my first choice, LBJ or Ben Taub. They will be interviewing for 3 weeks so there may be more interview notices to come.

They are NOT going to interview all 500 applicants, nobody does that. They told me that for the last internship there were 400 applicants, 150 selected for interview 1 and 75 were called back for interview 2...only 48 were hired. I'm sure they are going to do the same process, also, interview notifications were through e-mail and you have to call to set one up.

I talked to my friend from Ben Taub again today, and they did just begin interviews. She said that they were very overwhelmed, and will be conducting interviews for at least a few weeks. So don't worry, there is still a chance!!

How and when were you notified of an interview?

That's my friend and she was notified by email to call HR and set up her interview, as were several of our classmates.
