Houston GN Residencies

Published

I will be a new grad in May 2011 with my BSN and I have applied to a few residencies such as St. Luke's and Memorial Hermann, but I can't seem to find any of the other hospital's postings yet. Has anyone else been able to?

Well, I called MD today because I went on and saw that the application was closed under my status and was ****** because its legit been 48 hours since I applied!

So, got ahold of a nurse recruiter (not the one in charge of the residency)... and was subsequently told that unless you have MD Anderson externship experience they really aren't going to look at you (hence the yes/no question at the end of the application). Obviously since I am from Mass I do not, but the woman then re-read the question and was like well wait, I don't know if that means clinical experience just here or in general (REALLY?!! UGH) so then she transferred me to the woman in charge, who of course, did not answer her phone.

They do not have a clue what the hell is going on... so I wish you all the best of luck but nothing seems promising unless you pretty much already have your name in their system.

That's what was explained to me when they posted the position. It's only really for their externs. None of them got hired last semester so I guess they are now making up for it.

Well, it would have been nice for them to make that a requirement as opposed to a preference so as not to waste all of our time for those of us who did not do externships. Whatever, maybe I'm just bitter.

I had an interview with MD Anderson today. They had the GN position up for 5 days and received 225 applications. They are interviewing 29 of those applicants and have spots for 19.

So they already started calling?

FYI. I received an email today from the Harris County Hospital District. They have started selecting people for interviews and the instructions said to call to set up an interview.

shitzu... did you already graduate and have your RN license? I was told that MDA wants only people who have their license and degree....thnx!

Do you know how many ppl they are interviewing?

What is on their email? So are you selected for an interview?

Speaking of Harris County, can any of you guys check your application status for Ben Taub of Lyndon B Gen and tell me if any of them says hold? I just checked today and both the Ben Taub internship and another staff nurse position I applied for says hold ... does anyone know what that means??

And shihtzu, how did the interview go? That is SO many people to apply for only 4 days!! Do you have externship experience with them? Congrats on getting an interview ... im on my way now for interview 2/2 for today!

Does yours say hold for just the internship or any others?

Yeah, I'm from Mass and only here for the weekend so I kinda used that as my in and along with being very pushy got a couple of interviews ... I met with Maxim staffing last night, interviewed with Methodist this morning for the OR internship, and meeting with St Catherine's in Katy in an hour.
