Houston GN Residencies

I will be a new grad in May 2011 with my BSN and I have applied to a few residencies such as St. Luke's and Memorial Hermann, but I can't seem to find any of the other hospital's postings yet. Has anyone else been able to?

Sooo, I know I'm coming into this late ... but to touch base in terms of the Memorial Hermann internships, I was specifically told by the head of the OR internship that they only had two positions open (can you believe that, TWO internships?!?!!??!), and they have been filled and are no longer taking applications.

I spoke with MD Anderson this morning, and they are also not having a new grad internship on their budget for this year. I'm on hold right now to speak with someone about the Ben Taub internship status. Hope this helps, although definitely all BAD things :confused:

With MD Anderson expansion they just don't really have it in their budget. I'm currently doing clinicals at MDA and they really do feel bad they can't hire us. Not really sure how many spots Hermman will have but for most hospitals overall in Houston they aren't taking very many. Few yrs ago Hermman use to take a lot but with budget cuts and the economy they don't want to invest that much money into someone who could leave in a year

Yeah all understandable, but crappy for us ... I got an offer from Maxim staffing to work for like the first six months I move to Houston, but is that really smart as a new grad? From what im hearing, probably not... opinions?

From what I heard it's not You really don't get the support that you need. We need to have a solid foundation first and have a resource person to go to before it would be safe to be thrown out by ourselves. Are they offering any kind of training??

Princess, I am meeting with Maxim this week (Thursday) to find out information and to get drug tested and all that. They sent me a ton of tests to do online, but as of now I don't have much more info.

As for an update, Ben Taub should be starting to call people this week for interviews. I have been in talks with one of the nurse recruiters the past 2 weeks. Methodist is ONLY hiring 6 people for the OR internship with over 300 applicants; it is a 3 interview process, and some people are already in stage 3 of their interviews. I have my first interview with them this week; they basically said if you have not received a call by now then you were not selected. Conroe regional has filled all of their positions.

Sorry if I'm the bearer of bad news to anyone; I have been calling these hospitals non-stop since I will only be in town for two days this week and I have finally gotten some answers this week from some of these places. It also seems as though a lot of them made deadlines of April 1st and will not start calling us for interviews until this week or next. Stay positive everyone! =)

Awesome! Thats really funny because I definitely called a nurse recruiter there a few weeks ago and they told me they are not hiring new graduates this year and they had no money in the budget for it. Yay either way =)

Thats the same thing I was told and I'm currently doing my clinicals there this semester with a preceptor. I know they take the people in the summer and year long program first so maybe they are just going to take them abs that's it. But from what im hearing they reay arent hiring so I don't know how many people they are going to take

Hey was wondering where abouts you saw the intern position posted for MD Anderson, I just checked all their open positions and didn't see anything listed and their link to the GN intern page still says to check back spring 2011

They took it down today. From the story I got they wanted to leave it up only for a little while since they aren't trying to hire many people
