Houston Christian University (HCU) FNP or PNP

Published

Hello! I was writing to see if anyone has applied to the HBU FNP or PNP program. I am looking into my options since a hiccup in my personal life disallowed me to accept another schools offer, and found the HBU program which is all online and now accredited. The website is very vague in terms of application process and admission requirements, however I am very curious on the offerings the program has. I have reached out to the school, but have yet to hear from them and would love the insight from other current/prospective students.

They will allow the same preceptor for multiple classes. My cohort had a difficult time finding preceptors that would take students for women's health as that was when COVID was just getting started. They allowed us all to stay on with our family practice people.

That is super and will somewhat take pressure off needing to find another preceptor especially now! I cannot wait to be where you are right now LOL!! All the best with boards and practicing soon!! I really appreciate all the insight!!

Honestly I don’t even know that. I do wish, however, that they would allow us to do clinicals despite covid. We’ll be practicing soon and will have to know what to do for our patients that are exposed, right?

I finish in 3 weeks!! The school WILL NOT help with placement, but the students are pretty good about helping each other. I agree, I prefer one class at a time just to keep things orderly!! Good luck. It's not difficult, It's about perseverance.

Congratulations to you! I’m happy for you and can’t wait to be that close myself. So, being self-taught, how soon did you gain confidence in what you are doing? Diagnosing and prescribing?

Hi everyone,

how is your experience with program? Did you pass pharm and patho?

Made A in both

I just started the PNP program this Summer. I have never done an online program and it is an adjustment. I wish we had some kind of online orientation to meet the professors and classmates. It has been hard to connect with others. I would love to start a chat group. I am taking Patho and theory next semester. Any advise?

My cohort set up an ongoing chat on GroupMe two years ago. It has been very helpful!

Picmonic for sure. Pathology textbook by Porth is easier to understand than the one required

Hi! I am starting in August myself! Which classes did you take first and is it 2 classes every 10 weeks? Thanks!

Yes I think so too since it doesn't seem as though COVID is going anywhere any time soon! This would be the best time to get that experience and also not have to sit out a semester for lack of clinicals. But is the issue with school not allowing clinical or difficulty finding sites/preceptor or both?
