Anyone been accepted to HBU for 2014? Or anyone know what to except?

The gold card is medical assistance provided via Harris County, and could possibly be free for us, since we are students.

Here is the link where you can download the application. You can choose to submit by mail, but it'll be easier if you make an appointment to submit your paperwork. I heard form someone that you get it the same day, if you go in person with all the required paperwork, which I am hoping is the case.

Also, I don't think it is necessary to attend both orientations. The only one that is mandatory is the SON orientation. You may want to squeeze some time and speak to an adviser at the SON about registering for the semester, or call and ask whether they will be assisting you with that at orientation.

I called SON today and was told that we DONT have to attend the SOARS new student orientation. The only one that is mandatory on Dec. 9th (I guess we get set up then.)

KiaraCarol83-I signed up for the RPE on December 5th, but went in earlier this month as standby. It was fairly easy but I did have to brush up on some THEA reading tips. I'm sure you will do fine. I completed all the immunizations so now I'm trying to find a local place for the drug test- these fees are KILLING ME!!!!

Thanks for the post about the gold card. I'm getting on that asap. I did my fingerprinting on Oct 30th but nothing back yet-how long did it take for you guys?

Thanks guys. Its so helpful reading the replies. I may get time and pass by tomorrow. I will keep you posted. Am getting my physical on Wed. See y'all on the 9th.

@thope8614 Just go ahead and do the drug test with the recommended facility. I ended up going back (I know, silly), but it seemed a bit difficult trying to find another place that met the requirements for HBU.

As for the immunizations, make sure you ladies get both the Varicella and the MMR titers. I still need my MMR titer and urinalysis.

In regards to the fingerprinting, I have already received my blue card, which is what you will receive in the mail if your background is clear. I took mine the same week I was accepted, so around Oct. 15. Took about a month to get it.

This semester is almost over!!!! I can't wait to be a nursing student!!

I'd also like to add how sad I think it is that there are only three active students on this board. :roflmao: LOL

Also ladies, the Neighborhood Health Center, located in SW Memorial is CHEAP. If you guys still need blood work done, you should definitely check them out.

Neighborhood Health Center

They are located close to the ER, but not inside the Hospital.

Hope this helps! :smug:

I have not done my blood work yet. I will check out the clinic that you have recommended...thank you. I did attend the orientation session today and it was great!Told us about HBU, reasons to stay at campus, CLW and all that good stuff. We were divided into groups according to what majors and meet with counselors. Registered for class and met with financial aid office. (Damn!....school is expensive) Anyone knows any scholarships? I don know if all first years have the same classes because there aren't very many time options for me. I wanted to register for at least now Christianity course but they were all full. One official who was helping out said that some classes may open up later. There is this one class (lab) on Friday running from 6am to 3 something.

Does anyone stay in south Houston (Pearland)? or y'all stay close to the university.

I live on 290 (Northwest side)...(fun drive lol) I went in today to turn in all the stuff that was due Dec. 9th-but was told to hold the packet until I had the CPR and blue card back. I broke down and called BON and mine should be getting here in the next couple of days. Kiaracarol83- I didn't get to attend the university orientation but I finally completed my financial aid. I'm hoping that my grants, loans, and scholarships will allow some overage (and yes this place is SO EXPENSIVE!!) I'm just happy were accepted somewhere, but I would have expected more ppl to join in on post. So you registered for classes? Are these extra on top of nursing classes? I thought we would get our schedule and classes at orientation? I guess we will see. Have a great holiday guys!

Hope y'all had a great thanksgiving! What deals did y'all get on Black Friday...lol?

Me....nothing! Zero, all clothes were either too big or too small or still expensive

I went to the clinic. Waited two hours to be seen. My bad! I should have known that being a clinic not a lab I would have to see a doc first to request the test. It was still cheaper than all other places that I had called. Thank you again.

Hey guys, I hope you guys had an awesome Thanksgiving Holiday! Mine ended a little early since I had a lot of work to do for school. In all honesty, I have never been so fed up with a semester like I am with this one. It could be that I am just anxious to start nursing school, but I just really find myself giving zero %&@!$ lately. Ugh, I am trying to stay motivated here, and with just one week left of school, I am trying not to let my anxiety and frustration get the best of me.

I just feel like such a downer lately, with no where to vent. *sigh*

I took this next week off from work to focus on all these damn finals. I have seriously had it with my philosophy and literature class. I feel like my literature professor hates me, haha, I have to keep reminding myself that I shouldn't give a crap. Geez, you guys, I am stressed over on my end. I hope that everything is better on y'all's end.

On the bright side, SON orientation is on Monday! I keep telling myself that to somehow keep sanity.

In response, I did not go Black Friday shopping, I just am not that dedicated to shopping. I did, however, take advantage of the Cyber Monday sale online. :-P I got two pairs of nice boots for the price of one, so, that was pretty sweet.

Wait for it. . .

They finally came in the mail today and they were a size 10. I wear a size 6! hahahahaha Can I get a freakin' break. Hahaha
