hello everyone,
i'm from east central indiana and 2 years ago i was accepted into the fort wayne's nursing program (asn). i was 26 and working a 35 - 40 hours a week for the usps. at that time i was told clinicals would be pretty much an 8 hour day 3 sometimes 4 days a week. does anyone know the schools around this area clinical schedules? i've always wanted to be a nurse, but i still need to work my day job. any suggestion you can give me? are their any part-time programs that offer clicicals say 4 hours a day a few days a week, or weekend options?
thanks
tonya

Clinicals have changed so much in the last few years. I now see students at the hospital pretty much every time I am there. We have several that are on night shift for their senior preceptorship. The bulk of the students are there either during the day or evening though. I'm not sure about schools in your area. Try checking out the forum for your state.

I agree, check out the forum for your state. Clinicals here in the upstate NY area vary so much that you can pretty much find something to suit your needs - especially for LPN. For example the college I am attending now for my RN is 1 day clinical 8-4 (sometimes they have an evening clinical available) and 2 days of 1-2 hours conference/classroom. But in LPN school it was 3 days per week 7-2. Good luck!

Every state is different in the required amount of hours for clinicals....my own instructor admitted today that we get over the required amount. And I've only gone for 1 day a week for 4 semesters.....at 8 hrs a day...so, it depends on the school.....

Different clinical courses have different requirements, but in the end, you will really want to know what it is like to go in at 6:30, work the day shift, and leave at 3:30 or 4:00.
Evening clinicals are the wave of the future IMHO, so keep your eyes open for them.
I heard there's a school in east tn that offers an all evening program.

For me they weren't long enough, our first semester of Med/Surg we were on the floor from 6:45-12, just about the time you got into the groove it was time to be off the floor, 2nd semester of M/S they were 6:45-2, next month our OB clinicals are 6:30-3 and instead of being spread out on weird days we have a full week of M-F, if only we'd gotten that with M/S some schools get more clinical time, I'd call up to the school you were accepted to and ask how they run them, are they concurrent with the lectures or blocked off at the end of each semester,

We did a 12 on Thursdays and an 8 on Fridays each week. We started at 6:45am.
