Hospitals hiring new grads these days?

Only if you have a BSN. And, yeah, I would say connections are pretty important too. I never saw a new grad hired onto my floor in the nearly 5 years that I worked at a large Boston hospital that didn't have some kind of connection.

That is generalizing, not ALL hospitals in MA require a BSN even for new grads!

To the OP in think Concord Hospital in Concord, NH is open to hiring new grads, you may want to check the website. They had an open house last thursday and had written that new grads were welcome, and I just oriented there for a new job and their were a couple new grads in my orientation.

It is a wonderful hospital! Good luck.

Yes, I will have a BSN. I have heard Holy family, Catholic Medical Center in Manchester and the Eliot are hiring new grads. I keep hearing the job market is improving for nursing, I just need some more insight.

Boston Medical will hire an ADN if they sign something saying they will get their BSN by 2020.

As a new grad myself I searched high and low for places that would take ASN new grads. I worked at a hospital as an aide and still they wouldn't take me because I did not have a bachelors (even though I was enrolled in a BSN program). Concord hospital does take ASN new grads but I talked to HR and they were taking mostly internal candidates. My advice would be don't get to hung up on being in a hospital setting only. I was really stubborn and only applied to hospitals for 6 months. I finally took a job at a short stay rehab and I feel that I am getting good experience, I have IVs, drains, post-ops - admins/ discharges; all things that you come out of school barely knowing how to do. I regret not taking a job like this sooner, I could have had 10 months RN experience under my belt and be able to marketable for hospital positions, instead I only have 4 months because I waited. What about those who have BSN? Has the job market gotten easier for BSN's to work in a hospital as a new grad? I have read some articles saying that a nursing shortage is coming for Summer 2015 due to nurses retiring around that time. I'm trying to gain hope, because my dream is to work night shift in an acute care hospital as a new grad. I have heard from my professors that this is possible has the job market is becoming more new grad friendly. I graduate in May and have been applying to many night shift openings all around Mass.

Is your school in MA? If so, your best bet is to apply to the hospitals at which you did clinicals. Best bet is the floor you did your preceptorship on, if you got along well there.

The Elliot in Manchester NH hires new grads also! I'm there for clinical cos my program is in Manchester (sigh -- silly MCPHS only doing ABSN in Worc/Manch!), and the unit staff are AMAZING and SO supportive of students/new grads they're preceptor for!
