Hello! I just landed my first job in a Boston hospital and I was wondering whats the most efficient way to get into the city? I was going to take the train into north station but looking at the schedule I wouldn't get to the hospital on time for my 7am shift (from north station I have to take the T to the longwood area) What works best for you Boston nurses? Is public transportation the way to go (train...subway)? I hate driving into the city...stressful!! Thank you!

This post is kind of late, but I am a Umass Lowell grad and just landed my first job at a Boston hospital with no connections needed. Most of my clinicals were in Boston! I highly recommend the school, it's an amazing nursing education that is well known throughout mass. Good luck with which ever school you choose!!

Thanks for replying!! Congrats on getting the job! My interview went well and they requested references a few hours after my interview so fingers crossed I get it! I find out this week hopefully! They interviewed a lot of candidates and I was interviewed first so I'm going crazy with anticipation here haha!

I got through four years of nursing school without a car! It's totally doable. What I did what arranged to carpool with my fellow clinical mates and it was no problem. In fact everyone carpooled really, and pitched in now and then for gas money. Especially when we had to travel to a hospital that was far. I had to arrange to get rides or take a cab for my senior preceptorship when it was just me at the clinical site, but it was possible. Don't be discouraged!

I have an interview at BI Monday. I have done research on what the interview entails and just about everyone says the NM asks '5 standard HIPAA and pt safety questions they absolutely have to ask'.... ?? Can anyone give me insight on what to expect during this interview? Thank you!!

I used nclex mastery to study for my nclex. I completed the whole app, it was very helpful. The questions are very similar to nclex and in my opinion more challenging. I also would recommend doing the free trial of lippincotts pass point online. It's two free weeks of awesome practice exams and tells you if you have a high chance of passing the nclex, questions on pass point are similar to the exam also. I passed with 88 questions! Thank you all for your replies!! I appreciate it, but I found out today I did not get the job. I know 100% having one duplicate IP address reference was the deciding factor in not hiring me, what a shame. I'm pretty bummed out, but will continue my job search.

You have to click submit to have the trick work. Once you click it the "good pop up" will say it can't have you register again. If it takes your money after you click submit that's the bad pop up. Hope this helps!! Good luck!

I wouldn't worry! When I set up the skills survey thingy, my references took two days to complete it. I think they are more patient with this form of collecting references, because having someone reply to an email is a lot slower than actually calling them! Good luck!! :-)

Ok-so new BSN grad here. :) After months of applying for jobs I finally get an interview at a large teaching hospital for a new grad residency. Interview goes great- HR calls shortly after my interview and tells me the nurse manager wants to move forward with me an wants to check references (score!!).... This hospital checks references by sending my references emails with a survey about me (weird). So I submit four reference emails on my laptop. Here's the thing-one of my references is a close family friend I used to work private duty home health for...she used my laptop to fill out her survey. And no, I did not see or tell her what to say. At the time, I did not think this would screw me in the end.... The hospital calls me back two days later after all my references are submitted and asks for an additional reference because one of my references has the same IP computer address as what I used to set up the references. I give her another reference and have heard NOTHING from this job for two weeks now... Did I screw myself? All my references are great... all clinical faculty from my school. Only ONE REFERENCE is from my same computer. Would this deny me of a job? I have been living in constant anxiety lately...I just want to know. I called HR the end of last week and asked the status and she gave me attitude about how one of my references is from the same computer...I explained to her what happened but she didn't seem like she cared. She said they are still looking at other candidates and will let me know this week...well this week is over and I haven't heard a thing. Why would she ask for another reference if I completely screwed myself out of this? Do I still have a chance? It was only one reference, I'm sure they have to omit that one but I gave them a replacement reference. I can't wait any longer and need some insight...help!!!

I just wanted to share my experience with you all since I have come to this site for advice/guidance on how to pass Nclex many times.. I took my nclex with 88 questions in MA june 30th and found out I passed today! I took a 5 day review course (I needed a refresher) and used Nclex Mastery App ($30 on iphone)...I HIGHLY recommend this app, the questions are very similar to what I received on the exam, most of them harder! I also recommend using Lippincott's pass point free 2 week trial, I used that everyday for a week before my exam. Take the practice nclex exams...the formatting is also similar to nclex. This program tells you what you need to improve on..I achieved a mastery level of 8 on my exam reports. Also a few days before my exam I did Kaplan Q trainer 7, which I found on quizlet for free...these questions make you think!! yet much harder than the nclex. There is also a free Kaplan question app for iphone that was quite helpful and has 140 Q's. I used youtube to help me study as well, SimpleNursing has many great helpful videos and there are many nclex review videos on there! There are many resources I used without spending a lot of money preparing for this exam...I studied for about three weeks. Overall, my exam was mostly content/health promotion q's and I had about 5-6 SATA...the rest multiple choice. I found it fairly easy, since Nclex Mastery and Lipincott's passpoint questions prepared me so well. I also recommend this prayer: St Joseph of Cuptertino...a special prayer for before exams!! Also...the Pearson Vue trick still works wonders!! definitely calmed my nerves while I waited for my quick results.
