I have a question for the more experienced nurses than me. I am a new to the floor as a nurse.
The other day we had a female patient who was transferred from a different hospital. She still had her ID bracelets on from the previous hospital and their was one that caught me off guard it was Orange and it had DFS on it. (printed not hand written) Our hospital does not have these. What does DFS stand for, any background for it? I am just wanting to know I have no knowledge of these.

Couldn't tell you, but this is why my facility has the policy of removing any and all bands that aren't ours as soon as the patient has been admitted. Part of the reason why I think that all armbands should be standardized nationwide.
I believe that all bands should be the save nation wide also. I just hate all the confusion. Our hospital uses the bands from previous hospitals long enough for the system here to get ours made to get the others cut off and our put on. I just have never seen a bracelet like that one. i have even tried googling the bracket and I am yet to find any information. I asked other nurses at my job if they have seen one like it and they haven't.

the only ones I don't cut off are the ones that are on pts from LTC, they are hard plastic and obviously from a LTC facility. Have no idea what "DFS" could stand for

Perhaps the department of family services is involved.
Why don't you call the previous facility, and ask them?
