How many of you out there have the misfortune to work with a nasty coworker. I work with a nasty woman with poor self esteem whose entire purpose in life is to make me miserable. She yells when she gets mad, then starts the passive aggressive behavior afterward. She acts like a 2 year old. I am at my wits end. I have managed to stay calm and not react to her nonsense but I'm just about at the end of my rope. Help!!! I need some advice on how to deal with this psycho.

Just curious??? Are you in a hospital, and if you are what dept?

I work in a probation detention center. I also work part time in the ER at the local hospital . I have been an RN for over 25 years and a Nurse Practitioner for 7 years. Most of my work has been in ICU, ER, Public Health and Women's Health. I started working at the center 3 years ago. I wanted to try something different. What I didn't count on was working with such a difficult coworker (also an RN).

could you just develop a crust of your own - just be your respectful self, no matter what, and view this other individual as a form of daily soap opera live entertainment?

are you sure that you want to stay there?

I have a horrible co-worker. She is on maternity leave until June, so things are pleasant at the moment. I dislike her so much that when they had a shower for her at work, I arranged to have a pressing appointment at that time so that I could gracefully bow out.

I'm really trying not to let her bother me but we work in a small area and we are the only 2 people in the department. She has picked fights with someone in every department and is very rude to the prisoners. I know they are prisoners, but they are people and we are suppose to be nonjudgemental and take care of them. The tension is so thick that you could cut it with a knife. I've avoided complaining about her because she's been through some personal problems in the past year, but I finally had to call my supervisor this past week and tell her that I was thinking about quitting. She has asked me not to quit until she can come next month and talk to us both. I really hate confrontation, but I just can't understand a nurse being so unprofessional and rude. She did the same with the last nurse who worked with her and now she's doing it to me. I like the work I do, so it is very hard to leave. I have another job offer but am debating what to do.

A mediator perhaps. Someone from management or human resources? Good luck. Usually whenever people like that are confronted denial takes over and makes them hard to deal with.

Good luck.

just because this individual has had personal problems, does not mean that she has the privilege of taking things out on to the other people who are present.

Is there any way that you can start setting limits - about how you won't be treated. Politely and kindly. It's time for this person to improve her social/interpersonal habits.

Just don't you take it personally - she's going to be like this with whomever she finds who'll put up with it.

I've worked with people like that too. They're interesting to watch, they can be extremely unpleasant and insulting to others - is that displacement? - they'll keep doing it as long as people put up with it. In the case of one of the individual's who was so nasty where I had worked, and tried to fling it whereever it would land and with whoever took the bait, I used to just quietly akcnowledge, wave, and get on with my work. The person you mention - is probably doing this unconsciously.

In my case with the individual I've just mentioned, when I had problems with my car, this same individual offered to help! And when I left the place, this individual came to me and said "you're the only sane person here".

Good luck.

To put it bluntly...she was out of line professionally. Hello everyone I carry two titles, (1) Transporter by day or (2) Nurse Assistant...Now which one of the two I am is the funny part that changes daily where I work. You have to learn to adapt quickly with the changes.

The RN in question had a problem with not getting what she wanted and that is a support person like an LPN who can do most of everything but this nurse did not lift a finger to help you. She always set you up so that "some sort of violation would be addressed."

Now, I came in with no experience as a Nurse Assistant. Training was offered as part of the job condition and be flexible with hours. As over time I got accustomed to some aspects of Nursing as a whole but fascinated with what all goes into being a "nurse".

Anywho, my friend, who trained me as a transporter got promoted to another higher paying position. She had been in govt for 26 yrs it was time. So, the other one who was over me well was out on sick leave changed jobs temp then I was lead person.

To make a long story short...I trained lots of people under me and all have graduated to better jobs. I, on the other hand have to bid out this year for more pay & experience. This RN was nasty to my crew telling them that "she wanted a RN not a support person" and my new trainee under me was just finishing up her 6 week orientation that day.

Me, trying to figure out what she had to get but only a signature from the Preceptor. My trainee had to be pulled to the floor for support work for awhile but she came back and told me what she said to her face...which was inappropriate very unprofessional.

I made it known that I did not approve of this type of behavior and the Preceptor heard her say it to her face. Immediately contacted my supervisor and sent down my trainee to her office. The same day it was brought to my attention that an inquiry was being made into this allegation and my trainee was worried for getting a bad rep 6 weeks into the job.

The next week a hearing was being set up to discuss it with the Nursing Manager, RN (Beotch), and my trainee. After it was said and done the RN has had several complaints against her anyway about her non-professional overeagerness to please but herself. Rude to the Unit Secretary constantly....Case in point she left me with her patient who had a bowel movement for 10 minutes then acted like I left the room telling me..."OOOh, I didn't know you was in here??"

Yeah, who ya trying to play me now...told my supervisor about that too then she cancelled my support duty for the day and returned back to transporting. The RN was let go for disciplinary reasons as well so after that the floor she worked actually (tension wise) got better. The other people on the floor kind of looked at me as hmmm maybe we should have done something about this first ourselves.:chuckle

All it takes BUT One TO get on your last nerve!@!!! I know everyone in the hospital on a first name basis now. I could say that congeniality is the key but patience is the other. When I first started in orientation class in groups we had a question to answer>"What is your job?: and I replied that :I am just a transporter: and too my suprise the following year with the same question winning an award for best new employee the same question, different answer..."I was wrong...my job is to help my patients recieve good care no matter what and to thank my colleagues for molding me into a much better person for being here"....

I got applauses from everyone and I told them I love them all!!! :-)

Anyone else had to deal with an obnoxious p.i.t.a. co-worker well x-co-worker???? WBS:coollook: :balloons:

great resource for dealing with the bullies in our lives. my heart goes out to you.

First off if i had issues with a group I would address them privately Not tick the whole staff off that's just plain dumb..I used to do 5150 transports years ago for the mental health Pt's Would fly as well as drive to places all over the USA .Loved that job.

:angryfire Yesterday I was so mad I could have spit nails I do non medical home health ,Our employee, who knew I was coming over to do a supervisory visit, to our Pt's home .Didn't have anything done. Her paperwork was not done from two months ago .I told her I was going to be there In the late afternoon to pick the paper work and do the visit. When I got to the door at 300:PM She tried to slide the paper work outside the door opened just a crack I said no I am here to do a visit as well .Pushed the door aside and walked In The first thing I showed her was none of the paper work was done none of the charting was done. She starts giving me major excuses.Has been for months to our manger .Its always something like her grandkids or needing time off all the time and I mean all the time . You think if you knew your boss was comming you would clean up your act.

She then states I never did this charting before .I said that's strange since this has been required since I had been there in Oct. and she was there as well and had did some of this charting. Thinking just because I am the new supervise that I am stupid.Or will let it slide.

Then I check the house I check for how clean the house is and have a check off sheet. The house was dirty all over.I can over look a lot but there was food crusted to the counter dirty dishes all over floor crappy bathrooms looked like they hadn't been done since I was last had to fill in over a month ago. There was food all over the coffee table had food all over .Then I checked the Patients under there blankets they were not even dressed at all the. Pt had not been shaved on his face or oral care done Then there was dried dog poop in the front room .

She sits there like a lump ,like this is no big deal.I just said to her well I finished the supervisory visit. This is what I found I read off to her what I wrote down and I told her this was unacceptable that she would receive a copy Just in a matter of fact tone .That the Pt needed to be shaved every day oral care needed to be done.

Then she starts giving all these excuses I said there is no reason why these things are not done you had all day. I said when I was there a month ago .I did it when you were off some of the days .The house was clean the Pt's were ,fed oral care was done the Pt was shaved everyday ,even by the other care-givers that were sent there. .Then I told her she needed to please get this cleaned up and the Pt cleaned up.That it needed to be done every day NO EXCUISES!.I go and report this to my manger. What I found and she was furious with her as well. She had found this before with this caregiver.

Next day the care giver cleans up her act .Then complains to the family member I am picking on her the care-giver. The family hardly ever come over, and wants my manger not me to say she was sorry for my evaluation. Well My manger went over and said the house was clean now That's why the family wasn't mad the care-giver had covered her tracks. But my manger also told the care-giver, she was not to discuss things with the family, that she was hired by us. That she needed to do her job as outlined in the care plan. This is strike two.with this Caregiver if it was up to me .I would have her gone by now .I am really afraid this could bite us in the back-side If she doesn't do her job. You know how family can be.This care-giver is always pushing the envelope.

I guess there is always one in the bunch.

I work with a lady who just blows my mind. She's in her fifties, so you'd think she'd behave like a grown up. Oh, heavens, no. She's the most passive aggressive juvenile human being I've ever met. Thank God she's a CNA and not a supervisor. She used to drive me up the wall until I decided to find humor in her wackiness. Now when she gives me the silent treatment or screams at me in the break room, I just giggle. May sound mean, but COME ON. And just about every employee in the facility has had run ins with her. Why don't they get rid of her? Because for all her insanity and inability to work and play well with others, she shows up and gives decent care. She cracks me up.
