Honest feedback needed on resume

Published

Hello,

I am about to graduate (yay!) from an ADN program and could really use some feedback on my resume. I have no previous medical experience so it was suggested to take aspects from my previous jobs and in 1-2 bullets highlight specific tasks. We were also told to put our clinical information under the education section and were given 2 suggestions as to how to list the information.

1. List clinical site, location/unit type followed by a brief summary of important skills or

2. List clinical sites under one heading and Skills summarized under a second heading.

I chose to do the later mostly because I have had 3 med-surg rotations at different hospitals and also to save space since they said to keep it under 2 pages. I am a little confused as to what to list in the skills section because the nurse recruiter that presented at our school said it is expected that graduates know how to take vitals and administer meds and not necessary to list.

I have attached a copy of my first draft with all identifying information taken out (name, city, state, etc) The hospital I am applying to, does not have electronic applications, so the presentation/format is important.

ANY feedback is warmly welcomed :)

Thanks in advance!

Interesting to hear what people say about listing your references on your resume.

I have always believed that as a courtesy to my references, I would not list them. I would give them at the time I am interviewed. That way they are only called when there is a very reasonable chance that I am in contention for a job.

References do like to be given a "heads-up" that they might be receiving a call. And calls by people who are just trolling might become annoying.

I agree and I should have n=mentioned that I added the reference section specifically for one hospital because my first reference is on the board of directors and they told me specifically to include their name on my resume. I wasn't sure how else to do it other than stating in my cover letter that so and so suggested I forward you my resume. The other hospital I am applying to does electronic resumes and you have to include your references in order to submit, but I was not going to keep the information on the hard copy in that case.

Any feedback on the rest of the resume?

Hi,

I was updating my resume recently and found some really great samples of resumes for registered nurses. Just google, registered nurse resume samples.

There is information in some of the resources and articles that I never knew were relevant. And it is free! Good luck!

I did google Rn resumes...and put together a resume based off that info and what the reruiter that presented at our school suggested.

I guess I am a little confused, are you saying the resume I attached sucks so bad that I should look over more samples? I am looking for feedback on the resume I put together because everywhere I read it says to have another set of eyes look at it...I figured what better eyes than others in the profession.

I thought your resume looks great. :) with your references....besides your instructor have the others actually seen you in action? i would want a nurse preceptor or a former nursing manager where i was a cna ect... that can speak to my work ability, patient interaction ect..... Although the board of directors is a pretty dreamy reference to have ;) I am a soon to be new grad too. Good luck!

Thanks! I will have to think about some other references. We don't get preceptors but I have had other clinical instructors, so I should probably think about asking them. I know the three people I listed so far will say good things about me. My others would too but maybe not as eloquently?? One of them is a little abrasive and another is a little airy (lol) not sure that is a word but it describes her to a T. This is much harder than I thought it would be or maybe I am just burnt out from all the craziness of finishing school!

Thank you so much for replying! Good luck to you as well!

I think it looks really good! You did a great job showing why you are desirable as a nurse even without nursing experience, which is hard to do on a resume. :)

I think it looks and sounds great too, and very professional. I'm working on my resume as well, but I don't really have any advice, because I think you did a great job! Good luck in the job hunt!

- provide education, referrals, and support relevant to patients' individual needs

I think you have an impressive resume. As a new nurse it should be limited to one page. I would list you current job and make a general statement regarding you other positions.
