I am actively looking into Nursing Schools in the Cincinnati Area. I am starting the application process at Hondros and was wondering if anyone had any feedback about their program, good, bad or indifferent. I know its a relatively new program but they have recently receieved their final approval so Im assuming they have worked out the kinks that were reported in blogs posted early last year.
I would appreciate any feedback you may have.
Thank you!!
Hey All!
I just thought I would share my experience with everyone. I am currently attending Hondros' LPN- Cincinnati program. I started classes this past July and am very disappointed. I was so enthusiastic about starting
I mean, I still think the LPN program is better than other schools that I was checking out (Cinci state, Brown Mackie, Galen, and Bohecker) but the teachers are TERRIBLE. I honestly can say at least half of my class is struggling/failing A&P and many didn't complete their skills check-offs so they will have to repeat the nursing classes. In addition, if you don't pass ONE of the classes you have to repeat ALL of the nursing classes, lectures, lab, and clinical. If you drop out or don't pass the lab within the first 60 days, guess what? You're financial aid money is returned and you owe the school a balance. You can't continue on until you pay the balance! Luckily, I am not in that boat, but some of my classmates are. Also, you have to maintain a 78% or better, less than that is an F (ouch! on gpa). If it was just a few students you would be like, maybe they don't study or something, but half my class is struggling. (Maybe more and they don't admit it?). I was planning to go for RN, but I really am considering a different school for that now.
I guess it is partially my fault, I had read some bad reviews on the school here. But also a lot of people said that was because it was new and they are starting to work the kinks out. But in my opinion they still have a long way to go. Our Fundamentals teacher can never answer a question in class straight, she just quite literally reads off the powerpoint and that's her lecture. She can't answer your questions she gets to confused and never explains anything. The nursing concepts teacher is the same in that all she does is read the powerpoint, and half of that she will TELL YOU she doesnt know about it but you have to know it for the test. If you ask her a question she will make you feel stupid and get an attitude about it. The A&P teacher is the worst as far as not explaining anything, and seriously has attitude problems. (Though she kind of has an excuse for that one since she recently had a baby). She just seems like she doesn't care if you get it or not, pass it or not, if you have trouble its because you aren't studying hard enough not because she doesn't explain it well. If you are going into the school, FYI A&P includes chemistry too, and Nursing Concepts includes a lot of Math they dont do separate classes. Also the A&P teacher loves to do pop quizzes and pop in-class assignments if she feels like the class isn't keeping up.
Hi Beauty Iridescent!
I am so sorry to hear about your experience! Has the class tried talking to the dean? I will be starting in Oct @ the Columbus campus, I hope its not like this. Although when I went to take the entrance test I was sitting in the lobby and watching the students interact with the teachers and they seemed pretty positive! I hope you and your classmates figure out a way to resolve this!
Good Luck!
I am at the Columbus Campus and this is my first quarter.
Our A&P instructor is AMAZING! She is solid at teaching anatomy and she def. knows how to teach. I must say that 50% of our class is failing it though. I do not blame her, she provides time for people to come ask questions and she is REALLY trying to help people, but the folks that are not passing are the people that dwell in the back of the class and are goofing around on their laptops all day. I sit up front and I have a 89% average in that class. I goofed up on my 2nd midterm, I had a horrible head cold that day.
For Nur 100...amazing professor the content is jumbled around like crazy, but she provides additional worksheet/papers to work off of and it's really helpful. She also pretty much tells your upfront what to study for on exams so that is very helpful. This lady is a godsend in terms of the entire nursing school. You can go to her for anything she has thick skin and she will tell her colleagues as it is! I love her to death!
Nur 110...Labs are awesome, Passed all my check-off's no problems, Math- teacher is not that great of a resource, but another teacher teaches review sessions and she is awesome, lecture...do not get me started! We basically the material that is on our exams seems pretty foreign to what we are learning in class. Lots of complaints on this professor from all around the classroom! I def. have to read a ton to keep up in that class and I am reading now for an exam that I have next Wednesday!
Everything is not gonna be perfect. I have a BS in Biology from Ohio State, they have ****** professors too. You just gotta bear down and trudge through the mud...
