Hondros College of Nursing - Input??????

Published

I am actively looking into Nursing Schools in the Cincinnati Area. I am starting the application process at Hondros and was wondering if anyone had any feedback about their program, good, bad or indifferent. I know its a relatively new program but they have recently receieved their final approval so Im assuming they have worked out the kinks that were reported in blogs posted early last year.

I would appreciate any feedback you may have.

Thank you!!

I have to partially agree with Beauty, especially as far as the A&P teacher goes. She could care less if you pass or fail. But as far as Nur100 and Nur110 instructors they only care if you care and show potential. I am a 2nd term student at Hondros Cinci and I actually have been considering a different school. But hey, thats just me! Some of the students there are young girls with no responsabilites and it is much easier on them. Some of us struggle a little more when you are a single mom, or have a husband and kids at home. Compared to someone that still lives at home with their parents. The Nur100 teacher is awesome when you actually go to her and ask for help...she wants nothing more than for you to succeed, the same with Nur110...she may have her own opinion or a little bit of difficulty explaining it, but she will get the answer to you. More than have of the class actually is failing...so I'm not sure where some people get their statistics from. My first term only 22 passed, out of 56 students. And not to mislead anyone, but the NCLEX average passing rate is not 93% lol. My advice is give first term a try, if its not for you....there are plenty of other schools out there! Everyone is different, so good for all of you that are passing, and good luck and keep your head up for those of you struggling!!!!!

Ok i started my LPN program in April at hondros college in cincinnati (west chester). I read some of the comments about the A&P teacher and I had her when she was about to have a baby. I would agree with a lot of the things you said about her. She did just read off the powerpoints but at the same time to learn something you need to devote out of class time to studying and learning it. Nursing is about way more than just memorizing. Its applying the information and i think a lot of the people struggle with that. The school is a challenge and expensive but its kinda like a boot camp to get your LPN. Nursing is stressful! If you cannot handle the stress and the demands of school how would someone handle patients?

There is a lot of bad comments about Hondros. I have had good experiences and bad experiences. Schools are a business first of all. Hondros faculty does care about your success but part of it is admiting you need help first. The class i personallty struggled with the most was psychosocial nursing. I got tutoring (which was free) and ended up with a solid B in the class. I am finishing up my last five weeks of my LPN program. I look forward to the HESI and NCLEX and i applied for the RN program as well.

If anyone recently has any questions about this school email me and i will be happy to answer them.

Andrew

hello , tallandrew1982 I do have some questions for you . Im looking into starting hondros and just looking for some insight on the school. what is your email if you dont mind me asking you a few questions.thanks

Congrats and good luck on the HESI! I'm in 4th term of the RN program and I'm sure that you'll like it!

Hi Andrew!

I am wondering if you are the Andrew from my class maybe. (I was only in for one quarter and planning to start back in April) I had a little problem with a skills test then couldnt go back for a while we moved to Chicago. But I am moving back to Cinci next week so I will be checking into it soon. Anyway, maybe you remember me :) Tracy only gal in the class with a head scarf. If you are the Andrew from my class I gotta say I am REALLY excited for you!!!! Well either way I am coz its awesome to know fellow Hondros ppl are doing well. I am upset I had to miss so much time. I was trying to get into a program while in Chicago but here they dont even do waiting list (usually limited to 30-40 top GPA students out of a pool of 100 or so) and have a lot of pre-reqs. Gotta love cinci, there we have hondros and galen without pre-reqs then at least butler tech and brown mackie no wait list and a few pre-reqs. I mean that we have more options its really hard in Chicago. I was considering only Americare or Northwestern but still wasn't impressed with the nlcex pass rates or cost.

Say what you will about Hondros (and believe me, I've had plenty negative and positive to say), but the NCLEX rates are excellent, the cost is low compared with nearly every other school in the state, tutoring is available and free, and the clinical sites for the RN portion are excellent =]

Delila I think you misread me. I wasn't talking about Hondros nclex or cost etc. I was talking about the schools I was checking out in Chicago while I was there. I am moving back to Cinci to RETURN to Hondros.

Oh, no, I wasn't replying to you, just adding in my two cents about hondros in general =] Glad to hear you're returning!

Oh thank goodness! LOL Coz your post was SO quick after mine I was like noooooooo I am not talking about Hondros! LOL Sorry. I have to say my FAV thing right now about Hondros is the uniforms. I like that they are never white (I cant keep white clean for more than two seconds LOL) and you get a choice of the style (straight leg, flair leg) and if you want to you can order scrub skirts (impt for me). In Chicago they could only be straight, white, and had to wear them all the time (Hondros on fridays can wear hondros shirt n jeans).

Hey Everyone! I have been following the posts for a while now and decided to sign up! I am going through the entrance process and have questions about financial aid. What are some of the relistic options you all are using to get through school (financially speaking). Loans, Personal payments, Fed Aid? Borrowing the whole amount or part? Any information would be so helpful :-)

Thanks!
