Hondros College of Nursing - Input??????

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

I am actively looking into Nursing Schools in the Cincinnati Area. I am starting the application process at Hondros and was wondering if anyone had any feedback about their program, good, bad or indifferent. I know its a relatively new program but they have recently receieved their final approval so Im assuming they have worked out the kinks that were reported in blogs posted early last year.

I would appreciate any feedback you may have.

Thank you!!

I looked into that months ago and found out I would still have several "extra" courses that would not transfer from Hondros' lpn. Only way I wouldnt need any additional courses was to get my ADN through Hondros, which Im choosing not to do. Im due to graduate from Hondros in 8 weeks. It was okay while I was there. Had issues, had good days. Not suffering from "grass is greener syndrome: by thinking other places will be perfect or anything, but Excelsior has been around since 1975, and its going to cost 23000 dollars less and take less time. It will allow me to work f/t as an LPN while I go there. Same thing with UNC's pgm..will allow my to work f/t as an RN for a year or so (which gives me the minimum 1 year that all CRNA schools require before applying) so this way, I don;t skip a beat or waste a single day. =) Doing the RN through Chamberlain would cost just WAY too much. $27000 for LPN to RN through Hondros is just ridiculous. And its twice as much at Chamberlain. I think its unfair and almost cruel to charge that kind of money. Ya know? And besides, I honestly fear for the board approvals getting yanked from them both. Unfortunately, it is more like a business from administration stand-point and not focused enough on the students and education. Some of teh teachers and clinica instructors were absolutely fabulous. Unfortuantely, the polar opposite existed as well..and for nursing..that was scary!

So in ur opinion, if i were to go to hondros, and finish my bsn there, would it be not possible for me to get my bsn after? even if i wanted to go to chamberlain? or would that work, but just be really really expensive. cuz what im getting so far is that excelsior is cheaper, and that chamberlain is expensive.

Getting your ADN at Hondros makes you VERY limited to which school you can get the BSN at. there are I believe 3 schools...Chamberlain, Indiana Wesleyan and MAYBE Indiana State (but they will require a lot more co-requisites). For me, Excelsior is better for me because they are truly accredited where ALL other schools accept their credits, whereby Hondros is not really accredited. Their "national" accredidation is actually a downfall. Unless they have a business arrangement with another school...all other schools will not accept their credits. That is a HUGE drawback for me getting my RN through them, HUGE drawback. So yes, it is totally possible to dot eh LPN and ADN at Hondros and then get the BSN from Chamberlain, Im just not a fan of that route because of teh time, cost, and credit transfer issues.

so your overall suggestion/ route would be what exactly? i live in michigan actually, so what do u suggest? go to hondros and get my lpn, and then?

Unless you can find JUST an LPN program in Michigan, then yep..I would get the LPN at Hondros or any other LPN school, then move on to Excelsior or a place with no lpn to adn wait, then look into rn to bsn programs through respected universities. =) Especially if you have to drive that far! NO NEED to HAVE to go to Chamberlain! lol

i may try to do indiana wesleyan if not chamberlain, or also try university of cinncinati, b/c on the website they only state that you need a associates degree/diploma and a rn license. nothing else, thats atleast what i found. any clue if thats possible?

Hello Mrs. Seals & Rasengan! Congrats on taking your test, I take mine next tuesday! A lil nervous about the math! They are accredited nationally, but not by the nlnac yet. After attending their info session & talking with someone who attended the program I feel pretty good about it!! It beats sitting on a waiting list for another year or two!! I'll keep u posted w/ my process! Good luck to you & hopefully will see u in October!!:)

Good luck to you flawlessT and mrs. seal. Dont worry about the math. Just know ur ratios, and the metric system. Memorize the metric system and when u go there, first thing u shud do when u start the test is write it all down on a piece of paper given to u. Thats how i did it anyway. Besides that it should be simple. I'll see you in october!!

Yeah, and i really hope they get the nlnac accreditation, it'll open alot of doors for alll of us. As for now, i hear chamberlain and indiana wesleyan are the only options to transfer our adn credits if we want to pursue a bsn.
