Hondros College of Nursing - Input??????

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

I am actively looking into Nursing Schools in the Cincinnati Area. I am starting the application process at Hondros and was wondering if anyone had any feedback about their program, good, bad or indifferent. I know its a relatively new program but they have recently receieved their final approval so Im assuming they have worked out the kinks that were reported in blogs posted early last year.

I would appreciate any feedback you may have.

Thank you!!

I'm also looking into Hondros College have you been able to find out much about them? How is there classes? Wondering if I should attend this school or not any info you may have would be a great help.

Thanks

I graduated from Hondros with my LPN and so far they have a pretty good pass rate for the NCLEX. When I started, I was the 3rd class in, so it was a little unorganized making it more difficult. They have weeded through some of the not-so-good teachers and found some pretty good ones. It is fast passed and very hard but I feel like I got a good education. It's a very small school so there is a lot of attitude from certain staff but not enough to make you hate the place. Overall, I loved my teachers and my classes. The only reason I don't plan on going back for my RN at Hondros is because it is scattered and still a little unorganized. I was at the Columbus/Westerville campus by the way :) Also, 1st term was like 3 days a week and then halfway through we started clinicals two days a week so it was 5 days a week. Term 2 was also 3 days a week I believe with clinicals all ten weeks one day a week for a full day, making it a 4 day week. Term 3 was 3 days a week as well I believe. Clinicals were scattered that term. I had only 5 short days of clinicals all term. Term 4 was a busy 5 days a week all term. 3 days were class, mostly morning til dinner time and 2 days were clinicals. Term 4 will definately kick your butt, but they have some awesome teachers during that term. Best of luck :)

Bittypie, just curious what it was like for you finding a job after graduating. I'm a couple weeks away from graduation from the same campus. Are you looking for an RN program? I'm not sure yet what I plan on doing. One second I plan on staying at Hondros, and the next I'm looking for online programs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I will be starting the RN program at the west chester loc in july '10 I will be holding my full time job and I have 3 kids will keep utd on situation if it works or not. Anyone in this RN program at the West Chester loc.

Hello,

Thanks everyone for all of you personal thoughts and direction, it's truly a blessing that you are all so willing to help!!!!

I am currently searching for a nursing program that I can still work my full time job (Financial Service Industry) while working towards a nursing degree. Is the Hondros program work friendly? It looks like it is a great program.

I didn't really see a posting that asked that question, nor comments about working while enrolled. I did however see quite a few people quiting their jobs... I wish I had that option.

If someone is working a full time job, please share!

Also, does the program require general education credits?

Westerville Location is the branch that I would attend, if that matters.

Hello,

I'm taking the entry exam this Tuesday, is there anything you can tell me, and was it hard??

Thanks

Good morning! I am new to AllNurses and have been reading every night the posts in regards to Hondros. I begin Hondros this upcoming July, most of the negative comments that are on here about Hondros appear to be from when they were just starting the Cincinnati (West Chester) branch. I wanted to see if there are any recent or upcoming students that attend or will be attending school. I can't express how nervous I am about starting all over in a totally different field. I had been in the housing field for 20 years and was burnt out so ready to help others on a different scale. I wanted to see if there is any advice on things I could be doing now before school starts to help prepare myself for the upcoming challenges. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly welcomed.

Thank you!

Hello Everyone! I am currently an LPN I just graduated in February and I am working ( thank god)

anyway My plan has always been to get my RN.

I am currently looking into schools and thought about hondros .... What is the schedule like?

I work a full time job in the evening and wondered if Hondros will be a good fit for me.

Most of the other schools are too far away except CSCC but their waiting list is huge and the prereqs are ridiculous.

Also, does hondros accept transfer credits from other schools?

How flexible is the clinical schedule... for example can I choose what days I do clinicals?

I think if you work FT AND have kids, family, etc, then yah it's going to be hard. Some of the kids in my class have the same situation and some failed out 2nd term because of it.

I am at the main branch and am about to start 3rd quarter. First term is 17 hours which may seem like a lot but really isn't. You'll need great time management skills and if you work, try to cut down on your hours.

2nd term is 10 hours for me [psy done] but it felt like a heck more than first term's hours. Med/Surg is a beast. The clinicals were really fun and a great learning experience. First term clinicals are just ADLs, nothing too fun.

Also, first term you get a "math class" and must get a 100% on a test on week 8. You get three total chances to pass it. I do believe the D.O.N writes it. I did not have a good experince with this. Technically, only 17 people passed it out of 60 yet most of us went onto second term.

Overall I'd say Hondros is a good school but they still have kinks to work out.
