Hondros College of Nursing - Input??????

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

I am actively looking into Nursing Schools in the Cincinnati Area. I am starting the application process at Hondros and was wondering if anyone had any feedback about their program, good, bad or indifferent. I know its a relatively new program but they have recently receieved their final approval so Im assuming they have worked out the kinks that were reported in blogs posted early last year.

I would appreciate any feedback you may have.

Thank you!!

So, I am looking to start in July (I will have one class leftover to finish in the summer at either OSU or CSCC, it's Math 152 to get my B.S. in Biology) When should I start visiting the school (Westerviile Branch) to see if I can get in for July (I'd don't mind starting in October, but why wait). Anything I should keep in mind or should know during first visits. Also, did you guys show previous college transcripts during the admissions intreview?

You would benefit by attending their info session as soon as you can. If you visit the website for Hondros College there will be a list of the time and dates. The earlier you do it, the better chance you have of starting in July. When I went in February, they could only guarantee a July start, and they've had more info sessions since then. I think they only accept around 60 students per term.

About the transcripts; in the booklet they gave us, it said to take them to the interview. However, it didn't seem like he expected them when I was there, but I offered a copy anyway.

Hey Angela,

CONGRATS on passing finals!! Thats great! Sorry it took so long to get back with you. I took a long weekend from work and went to Chicago to see one of my really good friends. I figured it would be a nice little get away seeing how in a couple of months I will not be able to do that!!! :)

I appreciate the few pointers. I will definately look back over the math and formulas from the HESI exam. I got a 98% on Math, only missing one problem. So Im confindent if I continue to look over them from now til school starts I should have them down.

You also mentioned to start learning some medical terms..do you have a list or a book you used? Im assuming once I schedule they will give me my book list, but until then do you have any recommendations where I could look for these terms?

Again, congrats on your Finals. Thats great! Enoy your break!! :)

Hello Adie!

THANK YOU!!! It was definitely a stressful week, and I was glad to see it go!

I'm not sure what kind of book to recommend to you for the medical terms. I had purchased a HESI study guide to prepare for the test, and there was a section in it that was all medical terms. If you didn't purchase the study guide, I probably wouldn't recommend that you get anything at this point. (You'll get a list when you start class, anyway!) I'm sure you could probably find something online if you wanted to.

Have a good day!

Angela

Ok, yea I did purchase the study guide. And actually, I studied a lot of those words before I took the HESI test.

Thats great!! The day Im having at work today, I wish I was starting school NOW!

hello all..im currently an lpn and im wanting to start hondros cinci location for my rn...i was just wondering if anyone could give me a headsup about the entrance hesi? i got the study guide but i wasnt sure if all sections were on the hesi and if there was any additional information that i should be looking over? im excited to start, hopefully in july. any info would be great thanks!!

Hi Prettymachine,

I think with the RN Entrance all sections are on the test. Did you already attend the information session? If so, I think if you just call Hondros they can tell you which sections are on your entrance exam. I took the HESI for the LPN program. I was only tested over four sections, which is why I think you may have all of them. Sorry I cant be certain though.

I am starting in July and Im really excited as well. Good Luck with the admissions process. I will help you where I can.

Okay. So I thought I was told that the syllabus would be available on Cams at least by this past Monday. Only one was available today, which was Bio. Can someone give me the heads up on what I should expect to take with me for the first day of school. I already plan on taking my books for Bio. I just don't want to show up without what I need. And should I expect to take any other supplies? Thanks a bunch!

Hi Catrat!

I tried to PM you, but it wouldn't let me into your page for some reason.

Different instructors will give you access to your syllabus, etc. at different times. (If Columbus is anything like Cincinnati, don't hold your breath waiting: it may take awhile!) :) So, the only thing you can do is keep trying. Keep in mind that you will only be able to access NUR 110 LEC. Nothing will be available in NUR 110 LAB or CLIN. Actually, though, your instructors should provide you with your syllabus for each class on the first day.

You will, of course, need a notebook and pen/pencil to take notes on the first day. After that, you can take notes on the power points if you remember to print them and bring them with you. (Much easier.) If you have BIO the first day, definitely bring your book. I don't think you'll really need to worry about bringing any others on the first day, though. Your instructors will let you know which books you need for your other classes. All of your tests/quizzes will be on scantron, so make sure you have plenty of #2 pencils.

Take a deep breath, and get lots of sleep this weekend! This is an exciting time!!!

Have a happy first day of school!!!

Angela

Thanks so much! I am so ready to go! I scheduled to where I start out going only 3 days a week, and on Tuesdays I have a 4 hour block where I'll do nothing but study in between classes. So that will be a huge help not having the kids around. Can't lie. I am nervous. It's been a long time.

Hi Patel,

I am in the same boat as you. I currently attend a university in Michigan (have been doing pre-nursing) and do not have the best GPA either (about a 2.7). Our school requires a bunch of extra science classes for their nursing program and it's absolutely ridiculous. You also need about a 3.8 to be accepted, so needless to say I am looking elsewhere. Let me know if you are still looking into Hondros. I would like to start in either July or fall as well! My ultimate goal is to obtain my MSN so I am curious about how the RN credits from Hondros will transfer to other institutions.
