Doing some research today and found a good one for lady partsl yeast infections-Insert a fresh clove of garlic wrapped in cheese cloth....I don't think so!

A former neighbor would wipe her baby boy's faces with their wet diaper to prevent acne when they got older. They never did have a zit but then again she and her husband both had very nice complexions.

Have you heard/seen any wacky home remedies to share?

My grandmother insists that drinking beer will increase a mother's milk production. My sister actually took her up on the advice! I don't drink and I didn't think that "increased milk production" was a good enough reason start.

It's the hops in the beer that increase the milk production; it's a galactagogue. You could just take the hops without the beer but the beer probably relaxes a stressed out mom at the same time. ;)

I never understood the advice to take castor oil to induce labor. Yeah it probably works if people are still trying it, but do you really want to be having diarrhea while pushing out a baby??:uhoh3:

Your bowels are fairly cleaned out by the time it's time to push the baby out.

Wow! The breast milk for conjunctivitis I knew about growing up, but there was never anyone with breast milk the few times I had red eyes. As for the gentian violet (GV as we called it) was much preferred by us kids for scrapes and broken skin better than iodine which hurt like you would not believe and we would beg our folks to apply GV instead of iodine. Guess which one we frequently got? I haven't heard anyone mention GV or breast milk antidote in a great long while, thanks for bringing back some childhood memories.

I am just trying to imagine if I could bear the thought of putting someone else's breast milk in my eye.... But as someone who use to get pink eye on a regular basis and is uninsured, I just might.... :yeah:

Not to gross anyone out...

but has anyone heard of rinsing the hair with the first urine in the morning if one has dandruff? Tried it once, still have dandruff (now use head & shoulders). Maybe I didn't do it right since I was not sure if the first urine is the one when one wakes in the middle of the night to pee or if it's the actual first pee when one awakens for the day. Urghh

I have heard of that but I don't have dandruff and have never tried it...

A patient I had the other week had cellulitis on her nose. She said she had a zit and popped it and then rubbed egg yolk on it, said it was a old remedy. She asked if the egg yolk could have caused the cellulite (she looked like rudolph, ironic since it was Christmas Eve!) but I didn't have an answer! I'd never heard of this before.

"I haven't tried the ear candles myself and I don't really have any personal experience with them but I know a lot of people who swear by them. " endquote

They were really pleasant to use UNTIL the avalanche of burning wax incident. Helped my ears feel warm and vaguely, though not dramatically, clearer.

I hear they're best used with a buddy present to keep them steady.
